It's
great to have you here today, can you tell us a little about
yourself?
I’m
Julie! I live with my 3 small children and my incredibly patient
husband in a lovely rural Ohio town. I have everything I could want,
plus books! It’s like a tiny utopia over here. LOL. I’m silly and
forgetful and get my foot stuck in my mouth sometimes. On occasion I
wear two shoes or climb into the passenger seat when I’m the only
adult around. But, more or less I get things done. And I’m almost
always happy about it.
Just
from your picture you can tell you're a bubbly and fun person. I
love that. So what or who initially inspired you to become a writer?
I
t’d
been years since I’d read anything for pleasure. My desk creaked
under weight of parenting books and home school materials. Then my
third angel arrived and I was up nursing at 3am. I caught Twilight on
pay per view. (Yeah. I said it). And that as they say was the
beginning of the end for me. Everything changed. My husband brought
me home the books after I talked him to death about the movie. And I
was swept away. When I finished her series, I knew I wanted to do
that too. Maybe not quite as well as Ms. Myer, but I wanted to write
something that some other bleary eyed woman would pick up and smile.
I want to pass on that tiny escape. A little rejuvenation for someone
else who’s teetering on a great precipice in her reality. I hope I
can do that. Just a smile. It can change your day.
What
kind of research do you do for a novel and how extensive do you get?
So
far I haven’t had to do much research. My novels are contemporary,
usually in places I know and about subject matter I understand. On
occasion, a topic will pop up that I need to spend an hour delving
into but for the most part, I haven’t needed to research much. Yet.
Do
you have a special place you like to do your writing? Such as an
office, a spare room, the dining room table, your couch?
When
our little Princess arrived three years ago, the office became her
bedroom. So, as a writer, I’ve always worked on my laptop, sitting
criss-cross-applesauce on my couch. LOL It leads to interesting story
arcs with three children running around me and cartoons playing five
feet away. On the flip side, I’ve honed my ability to focus
through a hurricane.
As
a reader, what types of works do you like to read and do you think
they influence the genre/genres you write in?
I
read YA at an alarming rate. I can’t stop. I love the genre. YA
definitely sparked my desire to write sweet romance. It’s not the
age of the YA characters that draws me in. It’s the YA author’s
ability to create palpable chemistry between her hero and heroine. I
love the swoony butterfly feeling I get from YA and hope to bring
some of that to life in my sweet romance efforts.
What
is your favorite method of writing...as in laptop, desktop, Ipad or
the old fashioned pencil and paper?? And do you plot out your story
or go with the flow of your muse?
I
write on my laptop. But when I’m away from the computer, I will
send myself texts, write ideas on napkins, store receipts or my arm
if necessary. I can’t afford to lose a good hook!
When
you need a break or some time off from the trials of being a writer,
what can you be found doing?
Ahhhh
I read. There’s nothing like an awesome novel to carry you away. I
also have a handful of favorite television shows that get me
laughing. In the event I can leave the house….I run away with my
husband. Anywhere. I’m blessed with an awesome husband and we have
fun anywhere.

sundae with chocolate ice cream, oh and whip cream + cherries on both

Favorite Season - Fall. I like the wardrobe & shoe choices
it affords me LOL + Sunny days AND cuddlebug nights SCORE

Favorite sad song- No favorites. I avoid sadness. In fact, I
can't even think of one LOL I guess I always turn them off.

Favorite Romantic movie - You've Got Mail. I love that they
fall in love before they meet. LOVE IT. This movie inspired my 2013
Honey Creek release Written on Her Heart. *Swoon*
And
a bonus, what is your ideal romantic vacation?? Spa + ocean views
and I am a happy girl. Lots of alone time, pampering and ocean sounds
24/7. *sighs* THAT sounds marvelous dahling.

there an upcoming or current release you would like to share with us

Yes!
My debut novella, Bloom,
released late in January. Bloom
is a sweet romance and it launched the Turquoise
Morning Press’ new line of Honey Creek Books. I have two more
like Bloom
coming this year. Together they make my Seeds
of Love series. I’m
really excited about Honey Creek books. They will come from different
authors in varied genres, but all focus on the same fictitious small
town in rural Ohio. I’m an Ohioan through and through. Writing
about the place I love is an extra thrill.

Julie, before we let you escape, do you have a favorite recipe you'd
like to share? I like to cook and am always looking for new recipes
to share and try myself :)
In
honor of the new Honey Creek Books line and my great state, I want to
share a recipe I’ve been making with my mom every Thanksgiving
since she could prop me up in my high chair. My daughter helps now
too. (By helps, I mean she eats my peanut butter while I pretend not
to notice).
Buckeyes
– AKA Chocolate/Peanut Butter Heaven
1
(18 ounce) jar creamy peanut butter
½
cup butter (softened) or ½ cup margarine (softened)
1
lb confectioners' sugar (about 3.5 cups)
1
tablespoon vanilla
12
ounces chocolate chips (milk or semi-sweet)
3
-4 ounces paraffin wax (I use 1/4 of a standard block)
Directions:
1)
Cream peanut butter and butter.
2)
Add sugar and vanilla and mix well.
3)
Form into 1 inch balls and refrigerate.
4)
Melt chocolate chips with parafin wax in a double boiler.
5)
Dip balls into chocolate with a toothpick about 3/4 of the way
covered.
6)
Place chocolate side down on waxed paper.
7)
Let set at room temperature or refrigerate.
