THE BOOKS
Bloom by Julie Anne Lindsey In a town filled with her past, she never expected to find her future. Seven years ago Cynthia left Honey Creek with a broken heart. Three years ago Mitchell arrived with one. If they let it, love will find a way to bloom.
Julie Anne Lindsey really brought me back to the books that made me love to read. Amazon Reviewer, 5 Stars; Bloom is one of those romances that transports you back in time. Amazon Reviewer, 5 Stars

Buried in Briny Bay by Bobbye Terry Roxie Turner finds herself up to her neck in trouble her lifelong nemesis, Georgia Collins, is discovered buried in the town’s landfill. Worse, with her characteristic Southern sass, Roxie has been saying she’d kill Georgia for more than twenty years.

I had Janet Evanovich, Julie Garwood, Jill Shalvis and Pamela DuMond all grouped together for this category. But I think the crazy sisters, Roxie and Trixie just had to come out on top. What a feel good book Buried in Briny Bay was, as it kept me smiling from the first page till the last.

Another Look Book Reviews Award, Best Book to Bring on Smiles

Midnight in Legend, TN by Magdalena Scott. Midnight Shelby has grand ideas to help her adopted hometown, and she's not going to let a stick-in-the-mud realtor get in her way.

I loved this book and highly recommend it. I must warn you, however, that [Magdalena Scott] will quickly become addictive.

Brenda Tulley of The Romance Studio, 5 Hearts

Murder at the Blue Plate Café by Judy Alter Small towns are supposed to be idyllic and peaceful, but when Kate Chambers returns to her hometown of Wheeler, Texas, she soon learns it is not the comfortable place it was when she grew up.

Alter serves up a delicious whodunit by stirring up a healthy serving of suspense and a splash of romance, then bakes them to downhome perfection. Add an appealing protagonist, and you have Murder at the Blue Plate Café.

Highly recommended. Polly Iyer

Shades of the Future by Suzanne Lilly Mariah Davis loves animals, running, and her hunk of a boyfriend, Kevin Creamer. Everything looks bright for her until the day she finds a pair of sunglasses that allows her to see the future.

Suzanne Lilly weaves an engaging world populated with charming and eccentric characters that readers will want to visit again and again.

Brenda Hiatt, Award winning romance and young adult author

Heart to Heart by Jan Scarbrough When Jeremy’s aunt gives him a second chance, he must decide if he believes in the unbelievable and the pet psychic who teaches him about faith…and love.

If you want a humorous, sweet book for a quick read at the pool or beach, this is it. Ms. Addie is still stirring up things in the town of Legend, even after her death.

Amazon Reviewer, 4 Stars

Rebuild My World by Cheryl Norman More than anything, Taylor Drake wants her life back. Suffering from the agoraphobia that has plagued her since a brutal attack, the once confident and successful photographer now cowers behind closed doors with a loaded pistol.

Ms. Norman is a gifted storyteller. I loved Rebuild My World and eagerly turned the pages, excited to see what event would next happen to keep this story moving. Not only is it well plotted, but the characterizations draw you into the lives of these people. Ms. Norman tells a compelling tale that keeps you guessing. Vine Voice Amazon Reviewer, 5 Stars

Ice Princess by Jennifer Anderson Mya Newman never minded the routine or quiet that came with living in Honey Creek, Ohio. For her senior year, she craves something exciting to happen instead of it melting into a cookie cutter routine like the previous years.

…a wonderfully emotional short story with just the right balance of sweetness and sadness. I recommend it to anyone who relishes a charming story of love and friendship.
LASR Review, Great Read! 4 Stars

Blurb:

She wasn't looking for love...

The owner of a successful, sophisticated boutique called Romantically Yours, Gracie Hart's nickname is the Diva of Romance. Who could have guessed that having once loved and lost, she has no intention of ever falling in love again, no matter how loudly her biological clock keeps ticking? Until, that is, her new tenants, Carson Price and his six-year-old daughter Izzie, arrive on the scene and proceed to wreak havoc in her life--and her heart!

...but it found her anyway!

Review

"...heartwarming and tender, this novel will brighten many dreary afternoons in small town America. James shows special talent for traditional romance. Expect more from this author."

Affaire de Coeur, 4 stars

Excerpt:

“Please let this work out,” she whispered and sent up a small prayer. “I need this to work out.”

Stopping briefly in front of the door, Gracie inhaled deep then exhaled long, twisted the dead-bolt, and opened the door fully.

She extended her hand without even really looking. “Mr. Price, I assume?”

Then she did look. Up. And up some more. My, he was a tall man. She gulped. He had to be tall for her to look up to him. She was nearly five foot ten, herself. Her mouth and lips went incredibly dry.

Her eyes met the most unbelievable sea-blue eyes she’d ever seen. Finally she felt something touch her palm.
“Oh!” She dragged her gaze away from his and glanced downward to her hand, now in his. His hand was warm, his handshake firm.

“Grace Hart?”

“Oh, yes.” She looked back into his face. “Yes, I’m Grace Hart. Mr. Price?”

He nodded and she took in more of his features. Dark brown hair, chiseled, high cheekbones, and those eyes....

“Yes,” he answered.

“Please come in,” she returned politely.

He stepped inside and she closed the door behind her, then felt it push open again against her rear.

“Forget something, Dad?”

Carson Price turned and so did Gracie. An imp of a child stood in the doorway, staring past her. Gracie guessed her to be about six or seven years of age. There was a frown on her face as she eyed her father, the doorway still framing her. Slowly, she crossed her arms over her chest and tilted her chin to look at Carson, a small look of defiance on her face. Her right foot repeatedly tapped the floor.

Gracie was not quite sure what to make of the child. She glanced quickly to Carson, who returned a hesitant smile, then to the child.

The little girl’s head held a mass of light brown curls which, if left loose, would most likely tumble halfway down her back, Gracie thought. Oh my, what she would have given, as a young girl, for curls like that. Oddly enough though, this child’s locks were caught up in a dusty, Louisville Cardinals baseball cap, which contrasted sharply with the Sunday-best frill she wore.

Gracie bent slightly to look the girl more closely in the face. “Well,” she finally said, pushing out her hand, “I’m Grace. What’s your name?”

“I’m Iz—”

Carson Price bolted forward. “Isabella,” he returned, grasping the child’s hand.

Gracie stood tall again and looked Carson in the eyes. It was nice looking directly into a man’s eyes and not looking down at him for once. “What a beautiful name.”

“Thank you. Isabella is my daughter. There was no school today. I hope you don’t mind. My babysitter is out of town.”

Gracie shook her head. “Oh, my no. It’s not a problem.”

She dismissed the issue of the child for a moment, then headed for the cash register. “Just give me a second to grab the keys and I’ll take you next door.”

An awkward silence filled the shop as Grace fumbled with the cash register drawer, her thoughts nowhere near where they should be.

Carson Price was not the kind of man she expected. No indeedy. He was much too—

No, she refused to think about it. After all, the man had a child. Most likely there was a wife in the picture somewhere.

Gracie sighed deeply.

With that thought, she retrieved the key from the secret drawer inside the old cash register. Gracie glanced up to see Carson crouched down on eye-level with the child, faint mutterings of conversation going on between father and daughter.

“Ready?” She stepped up behind them and Carson rose quickly to his feet, snatching the ball cap off his Isabella’s head on his ascent. Gracie registered a sharp glance of annoyance from the child and the stern, warning stare back from the parent as he quickly stuffed the ball cap into the back pocket of his khaki pants.

“We’ll take a look at the shop first, then the apartment,” she continued.

“That’s fine,” Carson Price replied.

“Unless, of course, you’d rather wait until your wife could come to look at the apartment.”

He shook his head. “No wife, just us.”

Gracie nodded. “Oh. Well, right this way then.” She extended a hand toward the front door.

Carson Price led the way, daughter in tow, and Gracie found herself watching those nicely fitting khaki’s from the rear until he opened the door and held it for her to pass through.

No wife. This wasn’t a good sign.

No indeedy.

There was a brief tingle as she brushed passed him and Gracie wondered from just where that tingle sprang. She’d not felt anything like that in—oh, in quite some time. Years, if she cared to admit it.

And she didn’t want to admit it.

She decided right then and there, that renting to Carson Price was probably a bad idea. A very bad idea.
He was much too handsome and much too charismatic for her own good. He had an adorable little child.

And no wife.

Two strikes against Mr. Carson Price.

No. Strikes two, three, and four.

Excerpt from Surf's Up::

Every time he felt steady on the board, had a wave he could ride and would stand up, his focus would zip straight for the woman in the white bikini a ways in shore in front of him. He'd noticed her his first time out and with each additional glimpse, his attempts resulted in a nose dive. That woman needed to go back in her house before he really hurt himself. On the other hand, maybe she knew how to surf?

****

Kylee couldn‟t take much more of watching this poor guy wipe out every time he stood up. It just looked painful. She didn‟t know how to surf herself but after watching him, she wasn‟t about to try either. Even if she did know how, she wouldn‟t help. She was hiding out at her Grammy‟s winter home on the gulf coast for a reason; mending a broken heart, not meeting another guy.

Author, Author

...read all about it!!

Thanks for joining us and please welcome a fantastic author,

Julie Anne Lindsey

It's great to have you here today, can you tell us a little about yourself?

I’m Julie! I live with my 3 small children and my incredibly patient husband in a lovely rural Ohio town. I have everything I could want, plus books! It’s like a tiny utopia over here. LOL. I’m silly and forgetful and get my foot stuck in my mouth sometimes. On occasion I wear two shoes or climb into the passenger seat when I’m the only adult around. But, more or less I get things done. And I’m almost always happy about it.

Just from your picture you can tell you're a bubbly and fun person. I love that. So what or who initially inspired you to become a writer?

It’d been years since I’d read anything for pleasure. My desk creaked under weight of parenting books and home school materials. Then my third angel arrived and I was up nursing at 3am. I caught Twilight on pay per view. (Yeah. I said it). And that as they say was the beginning of the end for me. Everything changed. My husband brought me home the books after I talked him to death about the movie. And I was swept away. When I finished her series, I knew I wanted to do that too. Maybe not quite as well as Ms. Myer, but I wanted to write something that some other bleary eyed woman would pick up and smile. I want to pass on that tiny escape. A little rejuvenation for someone else who’s teetering on a great precipice in her reality. I hope I can do that. Just a smile. It can change your day.

What kind of research do you do for a novel and how extensive do you get?

So far I haven’t had to do much research. My novels are contemporary, usually in places I know and about subject matter I understand. On occasion, a topic will pop up that I need to spend an hour delving into but for the most part, I haven’t needed to research much. Yet.

Do you have a special place you like to do your writing? Such as an office, a spare room, the dining room table, your couch?

When our little Princess arrived three years ago, the office became her bedroom. So, as a writer, I’ve always worked on my laptop, sitting criss-cross-applesauce on my couch. LOL It leads to interesting story arcs with three children running around me and cartoons playing five feet away. On the flip side, I’ve honed my ability to focus through a hurricane.

As a reader, what types of works do you like to read and do you think they influence the genre/genres you write in?

I read YA at an alarming rate. I can’t stop. I love the genre. YA definitely sparked my desire to write sweet romance. It’s not the age of the YA characters that draws me in. It’s the YA author’s ability to create palpable chemistry between her hero and heroine. I love the swoony butterfly feeling I get from YA and hope to bring some of that to life in my sweet romance efforts.

What is your favorite method of writing...as in laptop, desktop, Ipad or the old fashioned pencil and paper?? And do you plot out your story or go with the flow of your muse?

I write on my laptop. But when I’m away from the computer, I will send myself texts, write ideas on napkins, store receipts or my arm if necessary. I can’t afford to lose a good hook!

When you need a break or some time off from the trials of being a writer, what can you be found doing?

Ahhhh I read. There’s nothing like an awesome novel to carry you away. I also have a handful of favorite television shows that get me laughing. In the event I can leave the house….I run away with my husband. Anywhere. I’m blessed with an awesome husband and we have fun anywhere.

Your Favorite 5

1) Favorite color - pink

2) Favorite dessert - hot fudge brownie sundae....or turtle sundae with chocolate ice cream, oh and whip cream + cherries on both

3) Favorite Season - Fall. I like the wardrobe & shoe choices it affords me LOL + Sunny days AND cuddlebug nights SCORE

4) Favorite sad song- No favorites. I avoid sadness. In fact, I can't even think of one LOL I guess I always turn them off.

5) Favorite Romantic movie - You've Got Mail. I love that they fall in love before they meet. LOVE IT. This movie inspired my 2013 Honey Creek release Written on Her Heart. *Swoon*

And a bonus, what is your ideal romantic vacation?? Spa + ocean views and I am a happy girl. Lots of alone time, pampering and ocean sounds 24/7. *sighs* THAT sounds marvelous dahling.

Is there an upcoming or current release you would like to share with us today and where can we find it?

Yes! My debut novella, Bloom, released late in January. Bloom is a sweet romance and it launched the Turquoise Morning Press’ new line of Honey Creek Books. I have two more like Bloom coming this year. Together they make my Seeds of Love series. I’m really excited about Honey Creek books. They will come from different authors in varied genres, but all focus on the same fictitious small town in rural Ohio. I’m an Ohioan through and through. Writing about the place I love is an extra thrill.
Bloom by Julie Anne Lindsey

In a town filled with her past, she never expected to find her future…

Seven years ago Cynthia left Honey Creek with a broken heart. Three years ago Mitchell arrived with one. Now Cynthia’s come home, and these two hardened hearts can’t stop arguing. If they’d only take a break long enough to find some common ground, they might be surprised to find love can grow anywhere.

If they’ll let it, love will find a way to Bloom.

*Bloom is book one in my new Seeds of Love series. I’ll be planting those seeds all year.

You can find Bloom and more books from me at

I hope you’ll make a visit to Honey Creek. It’s a beautiful place where anything can happen. Kick off your shoes, relax into that porch swing, cuddle up to a steamy cup of tea and maybe my debut novella, Bloom. Taking a trip to Honey Creek is as easy as Amazon : ) See you there!

Well Julie, before we let you escape, do you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share? I like to cook and am always looking for new recipes to share and try myself :)

In honor of the new Honey Creek Books line and my great state, I want to share a recipe I’ve been making with my mom every Thanksgiving since she could prop me up in my high chair. My daughter helps now too. (By helps, I mean she eats my peanut butter while I pretend not to notice).

Buckeyes – AKA Chocolate/Peanut Butter Heaven

1 (18 ounce) jar creamy peanut butter
½ cup butter (softened) or ½ cup margarine (softened)
1 lb confectioners' sugar (about 3.5 cups)
1 tablespoon vanilla
12 ounces chocolate chips (milk or semi-sweet)
3 -4 ounces paraffin wax (I use 1/4 of a standard block)

Directions:

1) Cream peanut butter and butter.
2) Add sugar and vanilla and mix well.

3) Form into 1 inch balls and refrigerate.

4) Melt chocolate chips with parafin wax in a double boiler.

5) Dip balls into chocolate with a toothpick about 3/4 of the way covered.

6) Place chocolate side down on waxed paper.

7) Let set at room temperature or refrigerate.
