Author, author... Wildwood Spring by Allison Merritt

Please welcome a guest post from Allison Merritt!!

Top 5 Favorite Things About Eureka Springs, Arkansas

Eureka Springs is where the book is set and it's one of my favorite places to visit, so I thought anyone who hasn't had the opportunity might like to learn a little about what makes it such a unique and interesting place.

1. The 1886 Crescent Hotel is known as America's most haunted hotel. It sure feel spooky when you step inside and see the Victorian inspired design. Once used as a cancer hospital, Norman Baker actually performed horrible experiments on his unsuspecting subjects. For all the sadness the building holds, it was also later used as girl's college. The grounds are beautiful and relaxing.

2. The Victorian houses scattered along the historic loop are the largest collection of such homes in America. They do a parade of homes at Christmas, showcasing several grand Victorians. You can feel the history as you winding along the streets, looking at some of the fantastic artwork local artists do as well.

3. The trolleys! In the 19th and early 20th centuries, they had actual trolleys with tracks embedded in the streets. Today they're more bus-like, but they run downtown and along the highway, taking tourists from hotels to shops. It's a great way to get around and see the town.

4. Visiting the area's natural springs is a great way to see the town as well. There are roughly 121 springs and seeps in the area, and 19 are maintained by the Parks and Recreation Commission. They're usually lovely little sights will pull-offs so you can park and picnic. Basin Spring is one of the largest park sites and I added a scene in Wildwood Spring where the characters visit. It's worth checking out because they often have entertaining street performers in the spring and summer.

5. Blue Springs is a botanical garden and historic site where Native Americans considered sacred as they passed through the area on their way to Indian Territory in the 1830s. There are around 33 acres to walk, but the trail to see the flowers and gardens only takes about ¾ of an hour to walk.

If you ever have the chance to visit Eureka, jump on it! There are a ton of other things to do there including visiting Beaver Lake, Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, Thorncrown Chapel, riding the Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Railway, exploring the shops downtown, and seeing Christ of the Ozarks.

Blurb:

When they face their fears, they'll find the path to love.

No one goes to Wildwood Manor—a hulking stone house on a hill outside town. Legend has it crazy old man Wildwood owes his life to the magical water of the spring at the back of the property. Celia Landry needs that water to save her mother, and she'll brave anything to get it.

Turner Wildwood, the son of the house's eccentric builder, is growing as reclusive as his father. When Celia turns up at his door, he's drawn by her beauty and bravery. Wary of strangers, he doesn't reveal his identity, but agrees to her request. When she returns to Wildwood in wake of personal tragedy, he's waiting there with a stunning change in his heart. He knows he should tell her the truth, but he doesn't want to ruin their budding friendship.

Celia's curiosity leads her to part of the frightening answers hidden behind Wildwood's doors, but her own troubled past may lead Turner into danger neither of them suspected.

Excerpt:

"Would you like to dance?" Mischief sparkled in his blue eyes. "This is one of my favorite songs. Despite my almost solitary upbringing, dance was part of my education."

She felt heat scorch her cheeks. "Not part of mine, I'm afraid."

"I'll teach you." He faced her, putting one hand on her waist and taking her hand in his. "Do the opposite of what I do. I'll count."

He counted in fours, moving in time with the music. Celia stumbled, but after a few moments, she caught on. Turner led her around the room as they spun in circles. She laughed, forgetting her worries. It wasn't a ball and they were both in their nightclothes, but it was as elegant a dance as she could hope for.

Turner grinned as he pulled her a little closer. Their bodies came together, fitting perfectly. He dropped her hand, wrapping both arms around her waist. They stopped moving, standing in the shadow of the mastodon. Dark blond hair fell over his forehead, but it didn't hide the desire on his face.

"Turner?"

"Yes, Celia."

Her name was a delicate breath of air, and he clung to her as though afraid she was a dream. She was too wide awake to believe that. Her senses seemed sharper than ever. He smelled of the lemony soap Mrs. Southard used for washing the sheets and the coffee he'd had at supper. Even in the muted firelight, she saw him clearly, his golden hair bright as sunbeams, his blue eyes the color of the sky after a storm.

She'd never been a romantic, knowing all too well she'd either be a spinster or a housewife too busy with chores and children to consider stolen kisses. She'd never imagined a man would want to show her stars, or dance with her around the skeleton of an ancient beast. These were moments she could cherish forever, think of when her world came back into focus.

It all had to end.

He lifted his hand to her face, pushing a strand of hair over her ear. "You look upset."

"I'm grateful." She forced the words out. "It's not every day I get escorted around a ballroom."

"You mean it might never happen again." He looked somber. "You'll return to the kind of life you led before we met. One where you're often hungry, alone, and overworked."

She glanced away, hating the truth of his words. "It isn't that bad."

"Somehow I don't believe you."

He wouldn't, not after the way she'd reacted to everything he'd shown her in his life. They were from different places and he could never understand how she'd lived before. She couldn't explain it without risking his pity.

"You could always stay. I'll find something for you to do in the manor. Official book reader. In the evenings you could recount all my favorites and the new ones I don't have time for."

His breath stirred the hair near her ear, tickling her skin.

"I think I prefer the title of cookie sampler. Who wouldn't want to sit in Finny's kitchen all day tasting the items he draws out of the oven." She pressed her cheek against his velvet lapel and closed her eyes. "You should have taken me back to town when you found me at the spring."

"I couldn't do that." There was the slightest hitch in his voice, as though the idea caused him pain.

"I'll be ruined for life outside of Wildwood."

"Good. Then you'll have to come back."

Author bio:

A love of reading turned Allison Merritt into an author who writes historical, paranormal and fantasy romances, often combining the sub-genres. She graduated college with a B.A. in mass communications that's gathering dust after it was determined that she's better at writing fluff than hard news.

She lives in a small town in the Ozark Mountains with her husband and dogs. When she's not writing or reading, she hikes in national parks and conservation areas.

Author, author... Edie Hart with One Bad Day & a giveaway!

...read all about it !!

I am thrilled to have with me today, Edie Hart

Hi Edie, could you tell us a little about yourself...

I was born in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. I still live in that area.  I am a wife and mother of two. I think that everyone deserves to be loved unconditionally—and that’s why I write romance. Everyone should have a little “happily ever after” and romance novels share a bit of that with everyone.

What or who initially inspired you to become a writer?

As a child I was always making up stories in my head.  Sometimes I would see a movie or read a book and think about different avenues that the book/movie could have taken. All my life I’ve wanted to write – one day I decided I’d better do it before time slipped away from me.

What kind of research do you do for a novel and how extensive do you get?

I can get carried away with research.  I love learning about things and I’m curious.  I have to limit myself so that I don’t lose track of time and also so that my writing doesn’t come out sounding more like an educational essay.  : )

Do you have a special place you like to do your writing? Such as an office, a spare room, the dining room table, your couch?

I have a spot in my living room that I normally gravitate to, but I will write anywhere.  I’ve written in the car between little league baseball games.  I’ve also written at dance rehearsal while waiting for my daughter.

As a reader, what types of works do you like to read and do you think they influence the genre/genres you write in?

I’m a sucker for a happily ever after. I love romance.  I’ll read anything (the whole curiosity thing), but I love to write romance.

What is your favorite method of writing...as in laptop, desktop, Ipad or the old fashioned pencil and paper??  And do you plot out your story or go with the flow of your muse?

I do minor plotting so that I have a direction, but with the actual guts of the story, I just go with the flow.  That can be problematic because sometimes the characters take over and slightly change the direction of the story.
I think my favorite method is pencil and paper, but most of the time I write on a laptop…  it’s easier to make modifications and saves time.

When you need a break or some time off from the trials of being a writer, what can you be found doing?

I love to read.  I do some editing on the side. My son is on a little league travel baseball team.  I hate sports, but I love to watch him play.  I really enjoy taking pictures at the games… I take pictures of all the kids and try to share with other parents when I can.

Is there anything about yourself nobody knows that you would like to share with our readers??

When my daughter was younger, she was hit in the face by her television set when her dresser fell on her.  She was fine, but I think people should know what could happen and that anchoring furniture is extremely important. My family was lucky.

Now for fun, I have a few personal questions,

Your Favorite 5

1) Favorite color - Blue
2) Favorite dessert - Cupcakes
3) Favorite Season - Fall
4) Favorite sad song- Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls
5) Favorite Romantic movie – The Ugly Truth (love Gerard Butler).

Where can our readers find you??

Is there an upcoming or current release you would like to share with us today and where can we find it?

Not yet on an upcoming.  I’m still working on Book 2 and have ideas for Book 3 and a possible Book 4.  I do have a current release though!

One Bad Day

Blurb:

Tessa is having one seriously bad day. After agreeing to dress as a cheesy mascot at a convention for her boss, her clothes get stolen, she gets chased through a sinister parking garage, and her apartment gets broken into and turned upside down.

Gray, an off-duty police officer, can’t resist the sexy legs he sees in costume at a hotel convention. When he catches sight of her running for her life through a dark car lot, he's determined to find out what her story is and ends up promising to keep Tessa safe...even if that means taking her home with him.

Excerpt:

Gray stepped outside of the hotel ballroom hoping the air would be cooler out there. He hated stuffy gatherings. Hell, he hated weddings. How two people could think they'd love each other forever was beyond him. Gray didn't do love. Which was why he was stag at a co-worker's wedding. He'd originally planned to invite Monique, but several months back she'd become demanding and talked about moving into his place with hearts and flowers in her eyes. So he'd ended it. Deep down, he'd known that she didn't really want him. She wanted any warm body that would take care of her. She had slowly been trying to mold him into some GQ tycoon, telling him what to wear, how to act, and even going as far as telling him what he needed to do career-wise.

A loud crash on the other side of the hall caught Gray's attention. In the open ballroom across the way he saw legs. Glorious legs in strappy high heels. The beautiful legs were tangled on the floor and attached to an ass that was just as gorgeous. After taking a closer look, Gray realized that above the amazing ass was an enormous, white light bulb-shaped head with blue googly eyes. It had blonde hair and wore a glittery purple hat. The tangled-up legs and heels were flailing around in a pile of what looked like empty light bulb boxes. Several gentlemen nearby were quick to help Legs get her feet beneath her. From their smiles and laughter he could tell that they were all quite happy to be of assistance. Gray didn't blame them.

He watched Legs find her balance in those high heels, and with a little wiggle and tug of her skirt she went on her way.

Author, author... Heating Up Hawaii

Welcome Carmen, so great to have you here with us.  Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Hi! Thanks so much for having me over your blog :) *waves enthusiastically*

I’m a contemporary romance author trying to make it in this world. I’m Brazilian by birth, have lived in the U.S. for ten years and am a global citizen by heart. I’m married, have one spunky daughter and three energetic pugs.

Do real life events find their way into your stories?

Sometimes, but I change a lot of things.

Do you ever mimic family members or people you know when you choose characters?

Family members, never. Have I used some people as inspiration? *feigns innocent smile* Maybe! My lips are sealed ;)

Do you find yourself going back to the same inspiration for each story or is it always something different?

It’s always something different. The characters sometimes come out of nowhere, sometimes from a newspaper article or someone I met at the store. It’s crazy, really.

When do you write?  Early morning? During the day sometime or all day?  After the kids go to bed?

Lately, early morning has been working for me.

How do you feel about marketing your book?

Oh God. It’s so complicated these days. No one can tolerate an author who makes it about herself all the time, so we have to be careful. My strategy is to be part of a network of writers so I’ll give and receive support, and take it from there.

What social sites do you feel work best for marketing?

Twitter and Facebook. It’s just so easy to RT something on Twitter or to join a conversation. And FB is great to share news, links and to maintain the author page.

Do you like to pitch stories to your publisher or do you wait until you have written the story and have a final manuscript to turn in?

I like to send proposals out when I have a good part of the book at least figured out in my head.

Is there any other genre that you would love to try writing?  If so, what is it?

I love romantic suspense, but I don’t have the time I’d need for research right now. Maybe one day… ;)

Do you always/ever see yourself as the heroine/hero when you write a story?

Sometimes, even though I’m really not that interesting, lol. But yeah I need to connect with my main characters and walk in their shoes to be able to deliver that to the reader. The closer I am to them, the better.

Now just for fun, I have a few personal questions,

Favorite 5

1) Favorite Male Actor  - Ryan Gosling.
2) Favorite vehicle – I know it sounds pathetic, but a tricked out van would be nice!
3) Favorite way to relax – A long, hot shower
4) Favorite ice cream – Cookies and cream!
5) Favorite outfit – I love maxi dresses.

And for a bonus:  If you could pick any place in the world to live, besides where you are now, where would it be?  (Of course, without the hindrance of jobs or money needed)

Paris :)

Yes!
I have a sexy contemporary novella out,

Heating Up Hawaii

BUY: Amazon | Breathless Press

Excerpt:

Only a few more months. Penny Ashbrook pressed her folded arms on the metal rail of the rooftop bar. She looked at the pallet of orange, yellow and pink colors dipping into the background as the sun set behind the Dallas skyline. A few more months, and she'd be debt free - and not just monetarily.

Although each day would stretch into the length of a decade, she knew she could handle it. Hell, hadn't she done just that for the past six months? She'd kept her head high and chin up even though her boss's passive aggressiveness often drove her crazy. She'd pretended not to listen when small-minded coworkers whispered behind her back. At thirty, wasn't she too old to be the talk of the office?

With a sigh, she stood straight and squared her shoulders. The much-awaited networking happy hour was not the place for a therapy session. She glanced around her. A sea of people occupied the large outdoor area. Elegantly attired men and women sought new contacts and hot leads while munching on caviar hors d'oeuvres and overpriced liquor.

She decided to stare at the blinding sun one more time, in hopes of extracting enough energy to walk around and get moving. After all, her client list wouldn't just materialize in front of her, would it? She'd had to fight hard and strong to get where she wanted to be.

"Penny, I've just run into an old friend of yours," her boss, Charles Dawn, told her while his fingers lightly touched her elbow. He prompted her to turn toward him and the tall, broad-shouldered man standing next to him.

Penny flashed her signature smile and squinted to get a sharper view of the man in front of her. An oversized palm tree shadowed him.

She guessed he was at least six feet two, which put her at a disadvantage at only five feet six. His dark gray designer suit looked tailor-made to fit the planes of his large chest, and good God, legs that went on and on.

Old friend? She couldn't remember having friends that looked this intimidating—old or current. If she was honest with herself, the few friends she had, all vanished like dust after she'd called off her wedding.

But this man... He took a step in her direction, the setting sun illuminating his face as he moved out of the shade. She glanced at him like her eyes were old-fashioned camera lenses, capturing his features in slow motion and adjusting to his figure. His lips, sensual and rich like his clothes, twitched. As soon as her gaze collided with his, her heart skipped a beat for a few seconds only to resume and pound its way out of her beige linen dress.

Luc Leoni.

It couldn't be, could it? To see him again after all these years.

Oh but it was...

Penny stared into his two-colored eyes—one lighter than a clear blue sky and the other reminiscent of murky seas. Yes, even they were ambiguous.

"Luc." She cleared her throat, and noticed a couple of fine lines around his mismatched pair.

"Penelope." Luc's velvety voice was like a warm caress. His French accent alone lured women to drop their underwear by his bedside. His deep pronunciation of her name hadn't changed... Pen-ay-looh-paay.

Penny stiffened her back, offered him a professional handshake under Charles Dawn's ambitious grin. Although she wished she could kick Luc Leoni where he deserved, she had to swallow her resentment and go along with it.

Luc took her hand in his larger one, and heat coiled low in her stomach. But instead of a professional handshake, he pulled her closer with a swift movement and leaned down. He kissed her on one cheek, his warm lips brushing gently on her skin. The whisper of a touch between his stubbled chin and her other cheek belted a wire of electricity into her system.

Penny smelled his earthy masculine cologne, where rich woodsy notes blended with a light citrus. Luc Leoni was a fantastic gift wrapping for an unworthy product.

He stepped back.

This can't be my imagination... The hot breeze ruffled a few lustrous black strands of his hair, warning her that it was all too real.
"What a small world," Charles said. "I did fail to ask where you two know each other from."

Carmen thank you so much for visiting today.  I can't wait to read Heating Up Hawaii!  Please be sure to stop by any time !

Until next time, happy reading !!

Finding Baby J
One lonely woman, a doctor afraid of commitment... Will finding Baby J help them find each other?

Shana Davis knows what it's like to be unloved and unwanted. Her childhood involved being shuffled from one foster home to the next. One night, as her shift at Mercy hospital comes to an end, she hears a forlorn, mewling sound and finds a newborn baby boy left in a dumpster. The abandoned baby appeals to her soft heart and her immediate attachment to the child—dubbed Baby J—leads to her spending a lot of time in the Maternity Ward in the company of the handsome Dr. Daniels.

Dr. Kagan Daniels is heart-sore and commitment-shy due to his failed marriage and past experiences with selfish, cold-hearted women. But he sees a gentle, caring soul in Shana and is drawn to her. Despite his reservations, he realizes he wants to get to know her better and finds excuses to spend time in her company.

Having always wanted to be a daddy, Kagan adopts Baby J. As he and Shana grow closer, Shana feels she's found her own private heaven. She has Baby J and the man of her dreams. What more could a woman want?

But a conniving woman, a manipulative mother, and a man from Shana's past threaten to come between them. Will the lies spewed by others separate them forever? Or can their love win out over all?

Excerpt:
Kagan held her hand as he guided her into the house. They walked through to the foyer to ascend the magnificent staircase leading to the second story. Once there, he preceded her into his personal suite of rooms. The main area had a bay of windows opening out unto a balcony. The view overlooked the back lawn and gardens then meandered down to the river where a boathouse and dock were just visible in the moonlight.
"Your home has such beautiful views."
"Nothing compares to the beauty of you. I especially like looking at you as I undress you, exposing that gorgeous body, one piece of clothing at a time."

He matched his words with action, starting with her sweater, looped casually around her shoulders. Then turned her into his arms for a deep, passion-filled kiss. She felt that melting sensation that happened every time he kissed her. Her insides fluttered and took wing then settled into a delicious knot of anticipation. She stroked her hands down his chest and felt the ripple of firm muscle, enjoying the opportunity to explore his body more fully. Her inhibitions completely deserted her. Though he hadn't said the words, she felt he was making a commitment to them and not just playing the field.
He led her to the bed where he continued to strip her bare. Night had fully descended, moonlight reflecting off the water, illuminating the room enough so they could see each other.
Her hands were busy with the buttons on his shirt, shaking so much from anticipation they refused to work properly. In her haste, she ripped the remaining ones free and delighted in running her fingers through the coarse chest hair; the texture so different that when she rubbed her breasts against him, the tingles went straight to her groin. Heavenly days! The sensations this man evoked in her were rocking her world.
Naked at last, they fell to the bed in a jumble of arms and legs, laughing, kissing, and caressing each other. She'd never thought of sex as fun, only as a necessity to consummate a relationship, but this sense of sharing and bonding between them filled her with a glorious awakening of her power as a woman. She delighted in arousing him, of being able to turn him on with the merest look or touch, as he did her.
Soon, all playfulness disappeared in the passion of the moment as their bodies joined together, working toward a common goal, that of pleasuring each other to fulfillment.

    Author, author...

    ... read all about it!

    Please help me welcome

    Lorraine Nelson

    with her release,

    Love on the Rocks...

Thank you for hosting me today, Krista!

Let me tell you…I love this book!!! It's the one that set me on the path I'm now traveling.

Thanks to an infection in the bone of my thumb, it had to be amputated. In order to regain the flexibility in that hand and return to the full-time job, I began typing, but soon tired of typing tests and the like. An idea formed and I began to write, seriously write, an adult novel of the type I enjoy reading. Seven weeks later, Love on the Rocks was finished, although it's seen several revisions since that early, rough draft.

This story begins and ends at The Rocks at Hopewell Cape, NB. The stunning beauty of the rock formations is a sight to behold. Please join me as I share a little piece of my province.

    Blurb:

When Sara attempts to save her daughter, she may also be escaping a fate worse than an abusive boyfriend…she may be running away from true love. The big question is: Which man will find her first?

Sara Compton, normally strong, independent, and fun-loving, is deeply distressed at having to abandon her baby, but she has neither money nor home and is hiding from an abusive and obsessive ex-boyfriend. The only way to keep her child safe is to give her up.

Anthony Jacobs has sworn off women due to a previous relationship gone sour. He finds the child, takes her home, and arranges care for her. When he places a public call for a nanny and a lovely woman arrives who seems to have a rapport with the abandoned baby, he hires her on the spot.

Sara is fraught with guilt and tension at the possibility of being found out. What will Anthony think of her if—or when—he finds out the truth? To add to her worries, trouble arises in the form of Sara’s ex-boyfriend, who appears on the scene with custody papers in hand. She makes a hasty escape, her daughter in tow, but in the process of avoiding the evil Elliot Saunders, is she leaving behind her one true love?

Love on the Rocks - Excerpt

"Since you slaved away to prepare such a feast, I insist on doing the washing up."

    "What? No beeper?" Caroline chided.

"Not tonight. Guess I was too tired to arrange a get-a-way. I'll have to do better tomorrow," Anthony said with a wink and a chuckle.

Picking up Charity, she shot back, saying, "That figures. Oh, well, I'll enjoy tonight's respite and take our little princess upstairs to get her cleaned up. What do you think of that, sweetheart?"

"Fine with me," Anthony answered unexpectedly, then must have caught himself because he turned back to look at them as Caroline erupted into laughter. "Uh, you weren't talking to me just then, were you?" he asked sheepishly.

"No, but you sure do look good in red," she quipped, giggling at his embarrassment as she went on her way.

Anthony could hear her giggles as she went up the back stairs. To his astonishment, he had truly enjoyed thinking she'd called him 'Sweetheart,' and it had seemed so natural, too.

Oh, boy! Am I ever in big trouble, he told himself as he realized he'd fallen head over heels for the woman. What am I going to do now? How do I find out if she feels the same without bringing on a sexual harassment suit? Why did she have to be Charity's nanny...an employee...and a darn good one at that! He didn't want to scare her into running away. Think, Anthony! Think! He knew he'd figure out something. He'd just have to play it by ear and take a chance when the opportunity arose.
