     ‘How hard can baking be? Easy‐peasy. Right?’ She knew her words to be untrue. She’d watched shows on the Food Network. The chefs on television made creating desserts appear simple, yet Jessie’s attempts always ended with opening a window and the lid on the garbage can.

     ‘I have no choice, and at this point I have nothing to lose.’ Jessie had thought the same before her previous four jobs. Though, she did excel at one particular skill—making bad choices. If only she could include that talent as a positive trait.

     She drew in a deep breath to calm her racing pulse. Desperation rolled in the emptiness of her stomach. She’d just go into the bakery and win them over. She had to. The two hundred dollars in her bank account would cover her car payment. As long as I don’t eat or drive anywhere, I’m good.

Hopes and Dreams

Law of Attraction was the very first story I wrote, over sixteen years ago. I was an aspiring writer with hopes and dreams of publication. I had the stories in my head and wrote them on paper, unfortunately, I lacked the ‘craft’ of writing. My hopes and dreams plummeted with my first rejection, then another, and another. I lost faith in my writing and placed that story on the shelf where it collected dust over the next several years. Life continued, my career blossomed, and I had a baby. Through those busy years, I continued to write—and this time—I learned the craft of how to write. There’s so much more than putting words on paper. It’s about crafting those words into a story that will captivate readers.

I can’t explain the excitement I felt when I received a contract for another novel I wrote, and then another. I then picked up Law of Attraction off that shelf, dusted it off, and polished it until it sparkled. Receiving that email, offering me a publication contract for Law of Attraction, was well worth the wait. I learned a lot over those sixteen years, and I’m still learning, but that’s the fun of writing.

Never let go of your hopes and dreams because someday they just might find you!

She clenched her teeth together, barely parting her lips as she spoke. “We have nothing but this case to discuss.”

“Come on, don’t be like that.” He leaned back in his chair, frowning. “You’re not still holding a grudge, are you? What happened was so long ago. I hoped we could start fresh, as friends.”

“Are you freaking serious?” She glared an icy stare. Forget a slow death by high heel. She’d get more pleasure strangling him with her bare hands. “You accused me of misconduct, had me fired, and now you want to be friends?” Her heart thumped a rapid beat in her ears. “You’re out of your mind.”
