Spotlight: Driving Her Crazy by Kira Archer + #giveaway

Driving Her Crazy
Kira Archer

Release Date: Aug 17, 2015
Genre: romantic comedy

Book Synopsis: Cher Debusshere hates being the black sheep of her posh, well-to-do family almost as much as she hates driving—which is exactly what she’s forced to do when her flight home for her perfect sister’s wedding is grounded.

Fan-freakin'-tastic. Then a hot guy offers to share both the car rental and the driving duties...only to drive her crazy by assuming she's just some spoiled little rich girl. Mechanic Nathaniel “Oz” Oserkowski is about as blue-collar as they come. There's never been a time he hasn't worked his ass off, and he's determined to prove it to the gorgeous princess in the passenger seat. As the miles pass, they bait and needle each other...until their lust and longing gets so hot it nearly overheats the engine.

They have nothing in common. Hell, they can barely stand each other. But sometimes it takes a journey to change the destination...

Excerpt: She’d meant only to kiss him quickly, just enough to show him she could be crazy and unpredictable. But the second her lips touched his, something short-wired in her brain. Nothing mattered but getting more of him. Her lips parted beneath his, inviting him in. He groaned and pressed her closer, his tongue dancing with hers until her head swam. His hand trailed up her side, the plastic of her poncho crinkling as his thumb just brushed the side of her breast. She threw her head back, the touch setting her on fire. He kissed her exposed throat, nipping at the tender flesh beneath her ear. She arched against him, wanting more, wanting everything. And he seemed more than willing to accommodate.

Oh God, oh God, oh God, oh God. I’m kissing him. I’m not just kissing him, I am trying to suck his tonsils out and praying to God he’ll do the same to me.

Nathaniel’s hand gripped the back of Cherice’s neck, angling her face better so his tongue could delve deep into her mouth, exploring every inch.

Oh, yeah. Just like that. Oh God. What the hell am I doing? This is so wrong. Although. I’m single. He’s single. He can do whatever he wants. So can I. But do I want this? I don’t even know him. Oh God, I am making out with a guy I don’t even know. Does that make me a slut? What if he thinks I’m a slut?
He leaned farther back against the door, pulling her on top of him. His hand roamed over her butt, squeezing the trembling flesh, pressing it tighter against the hot, hard length of him.

Holy shit, I don’t even care. He can think whatever he wants as long as he does that again. “Cher.”

Hmm?” His lips trailed their way up her neck. “You’re thinking too hard.” His teeth grazed her chin. Pulled her earlobe into his mouth for a quick nip. She sucked in her breath, nearly sobbing at the sensation that shot straight to her groin.

“Am I?”

“Yes. You are. So tell yourself to shut up and just kiss me.”

“I can do that.”

“Good.”

She has odd, eclectic tastes in just about everything and often lets her imagination run away with her. She loves a variety of genres and along with contemporary romances, she writes historicals as Michelle McLean.

Excerpt:
“I’d never hurt you. Never. No matter what happened,” he said, leaning back against the wall.

“Even if I broke it off between us and started dating someone else? Someone on the team?”

He sucked in a breath. “That would be tough to swallow. I might be pissed off, plenty pissed off, but I’d never try to get you fired or anything.”

“Or sabotage me? Or a project I was working on?”

“Nope. Not my style. In fact, I’m usually the one to leave.”

She laughed again. “Really? That’s funny. Then, you have no experience and don’t know what you’d do.”

“Hell, I’ve been living with myself for forty-two years. I know what I wouldn’t do.”

She sauntered over to him and gazed up into his eyes. “It’s funny what passion turned backward can do.”

“Not remove all my standards.”

“You like to win.”

“On the field.”

“In life.”

“I’ve had enough women to know each one is not necessarily the last.”

“Ouch!”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to insult you,” he said, and hugged her to him.

“God, you smell good,” he whispered into her hair.

“You didn’t. I get it.”

“You’re different.”

“Oh? I thought I was just another woman who came along.”

“Nope. You’re beautiful, smart, and know the game. That’s unique.”

“Thanks.” She closed her eyes and lost herself in his arms again. He stroked her back. Jo lifted her head and eased out of his embrace.

“Coffee’s done its job. I think I’d better go…while I can.”

He nodded. “I’ll get your coat and walk you to your car.” He held her wrap while she slipped her arms in the sleeves then closed his around her, bent, and kissed her neck. Jo shifted her head back to rest on his shoulder. The feather-soft feel of his lips made her tremble.
“Sorry,” he said, straightening up. “I must have been a vampire in another life. Can’t resist a pretty neck.”

When she turned, he grabbed her and kissed her with raw passion, angling his head to deepen it. He stole her breath. Then, it was over.

Eyes bright with lust met her own. One more date and I’m a goner. He opened the door and let her go first.

“Thank you for the dinner.” He shut her car door.

She rolled down her window, but before she could speak, he was kissing her again, his hand cupping her cheek. Then, there was nothing but cool air.
“Call me when you get home. So I’ll know you arrived safely.”

She nodded and shifted into reverse. Driving down the lonely road home, thoughts tumbled through her mind. Disorganized, jumbled, sensuous, hormonal ideas flashed before her. Jo had always been buttoned up. She had learned by the time she was eight to keep her room in order and her school projects as well.

Organization is the backbone of success, she’d told herself a thousand times. But now, she was a muddled, unorganized mess, a mass of feelings that ran the gamut from happy to terrified. It was as if she had tried to put her foot in a shoe that was the wrong size. This manner of being wasn’t the Josephine Parker she knew. This was a primitive animal that wanted to give in to lust, no matter what the cost.

But the sight, the taste, the feel, and the scent of the man were beyond tempting, mesmerizing her, seducing her. His confidence, his slow kiss, promised a bedroom experience like none she’d ever had before. And she wanted it. She wanted him. She wanted to give herself to him, all night long, to taste and be tasted by, to reach ecstasy with, and to make love to until sunrise.

This new feeling shook her to her roots. A part of her broke through the controlled, distant, untrusting, business-like Josephine Parker and became the lusty, sensuous Jo Parker who had to have this man—damn the consequences. It scared the crap out of her.

Excerpt:

My mother was drunk in the next room when it happened twelve years ago.

Now I’m sitting in a hotel that could be anywhere. I can hear the ocean lapping against the shore, and the lights of the city look like stars that hang too close to the horizon.

I know I shouldn’t be here. Sitting on the firm mattress, my legs bent toward me, I lean against the headboard. I take another drink of whiskey, let the burn sink deep. I feel it in my core, tingling. My breath quickens. I want to be here.

He lifts the comforter and draws me down with him, and I feel as if it’s something we’ve already done. Somewhere, sometime before, he held me this way. And I had to let go. I can hear his heart beating, my cheek pressed to his chest. I wonder how I ended up here, in the arms of a man I dreamt of before we met. His grip tightens and I feel soft kisses against my bare shoulder, his stubble scratching my skin. The warmth of his breath is welcome, somehow rejuvenating. Our lips meet and each kiss is exploratory, tender, slow—as if to make sure it’s right. I think about the hot tub six floors down. Is the water too searing? Should we get in?

We stop, cuddle, then continue, and I’m too afraid to move. My heart pounds. I start to hear things in my head, familiar voices. Each taunting, jeering. You stupid slut, what makes you think you’re good enough for him?

I shove them away. He kisses me again, and I invite it. Deep, passionate, frenzied—I’ve never felt anything like this before. Because I make a point to avoid it.

His hands roam my body, and I respond, wanting more.

Please go away, no . . . stay!

He presses against me, and I want to welcome him, thrust my hips up to meet his. But suddenly I feel trapped, unable to resist. And his tongue is probing my mouth, and I’m hot, wet between my legs—
Panic. Twelve years ago I was laying on a bed with a broken spring, pinned beneath a man who was laughing at me, shoving himself inside me despite my begging him to stop. He thought it was so funny, my resistance, like the way an adult cackles at a crying child after playing a cruel joke.

Why did you let him do that to me, Mama? Why didn’t you stop him?

Stumbling, wasted, she slammed her calloused feet against the faux wood floor and growled, “I trusted you!” Brandishing a gnarled finger, she looked at me in disgust, as if—

It was all my fault.

Panic. I’m back in the hotel, and I’m pressing against his chest, trying to pull away from his kisses. The surf licks the sand, warm and wet, and I can hear the syllables as they jump from the sea.

You are worthless. You deserve this. To be humiliated. Scorned. Treated like dirt.

“Please, please no, this is too much for me.” I manage to speak, and he stops. Am I talking to him, or the voices? I pull away, my chest aching, my heart sinking. I clutch my stomach. “It hurts.”

Something tells me it’s not the whiskey; it’s the pain I bury, the grief roiling inside me.
I tell him about the rape. How my mother was there. She didn’t stop it. Is that love? What is love? I suddenly wish I were six floors down, sinking in the hot tub, nothing but a shell without a soul.

A while later, he asks me if I’m all right, his head on my stomach, his arm around my hip.

I don’t know. I don’t know if I’m all right.

A year ago I had a vision I was in a hotel room with a man, and we made passionate love for hours. Then he went to war and died, shot in the chest, fallen on a dirt road.

I drag myself off the bed, capping the whiskey, listening to the voices taunt me.

Don’t listen. They’re wrong.

“I should go,” I tell him, but I don’t really want to.

He walks me to my car and I ask him to kiss me again, make it the best I’ve ever had. And he does. Driving down the empty roads, I want to turn around and know I shouldn’t.

In a hotel room, I realized my fears. Now instead of him leaving, it is I who is departing.

A balmy sea breeze tousles the palm trees.

And I drive on, gaze piercing the darkness, thinking of the man I dreamt about before I met him.
