Hi Travis and welcome !  Can you tell us a little about yourself?

~ I've been married for ten years.  My wife and I have a 19 month old little boy.  I've been an optometrist for seven years.

 

When did you start writing and were you always interested in being a published author?

~  I was never interested in writing or literature in school.  My wife's passion for reading and writing eventually rubbed off on me.

 

What do you think is or has been the hardest part of getting published?

~ The hardest part about getting published was getting someone to read my book. 

 

What inspires you to write?

~ I don't have one inspiration to write.  I enjoy having something constructive to do when I have down time.  Book ideas are something I can work on at any time.  My inspiration varies.

  

Do you plot out your stories or just wing it?

~  When I start a story, I have a general idea in mind.  I start writing, and the details fill in as I go.

 

Do you have any other stories in the works?

~ I have two other novels as follow-ups to this one that are already finished.  I have started the fourth in this series.

 

How does your family feel about your writing?

~ My wife is extremely supportive of my writing.  My little boy doesn't like daddy to divide his attention so I write when he's sleeping.

 

When you aren’t writing, do you do anything fun?

~ Our main hobby is water sports in the summer.  Wakeboarding and wake surfing are what we like the most.

 Favorite color:  Blue

Favorite food:  Cheeseburger and Fries

Favorite sport:  I don't watch sports much at all.  I participate in several.  I even played football in college. 

Not-so-Favorite honey-do list item J   My least favorite household chore is cleaning the litter box.

Whisked to Washington with the task of developing a cure for the biological weapon the CIA let slip out of their control, Dr. Maples knows failure means worldwide breakdown of government and complete anarchy.  When the team finds a sale of the weapon has taken place right under their noses, their new directive is to mitigate the damage done by this ruthlessly efficient biological weapon before the world falls into the dark ages following a pandemic of fear-driven civil disobedience.

The rules were simple and the night promised to be one to never forget. All Scarlett has to do is let her guard down and have a little fun.

Scarlett’s best friend, Angela, has convinced her to attend an event called Text Me. No talking is aloud, only texting someone to get to know them. Rooms have been reserved for those attending in case they want to get to know someone one a more personal level.

After a series of texts that lead nowhere, Scarlett gets one that piques her interest. The person on the other end wants to tie her up and spank her. She finds herself eager to learn more. But that would mean trusting the anonymous texter. Can Scarlett finally let go and experience the pleasure this mystery man has to give?

 

Excerpt

“Welcome,” a stunning red headed woman greeted them. “Please look over the rules then come over here and I’ll help sign you up.”

Scarlett looked at the poster board and read.

Welcome to the first annual, Text Me Date Night.

We’ve tried to make tonight as safe and enjoyable as possible. Please take a moment to look over the simple rules.

Every person is assigned their ID that is associated with their phone number.

You will display your ID with a sticker on your back.

If you find someone you are interested in, you will check the board for their ID and find their number.

Always identify yourself with your ID.

All communication is through texting. No talking aloud.

If you find someone you’d like to get to know better, stop by the welcome desk to get a room card and leave your ID number so we know who is where and with whom.

Most of all, let loose and have fun.

The rules were simple and seemed like this event was well thought out. Everyone had their own personal identification code which seemed as though it would help keep them safe. What the hell. Might as well give it a go.

“Ready?” Angela asked.

“I didn’t get dressed up for nothing.” Scarlett tossed her blonde locks behind her shoulders and strutted back to the table to get her ID.

At the sign-up table, the woman looked thrilled to see them. She handed them each a clipboard with a few simple questions to fill out. As Scarlett wrote her phone number down, she really hoped the room wasn’t filled with a bunch of psychos. After she completed the form, she handed it back to the woman then the red head placed a big sticker on her back which identified her to her phone number.

“Good luck, ladies. And my best advice is, let the men text you.”

“Thanks,” Scarlett said as she waited on Angela.

They went toward the ballroom where the event was being hosted. The doors were wide open, making it feel inviting. Before they entered where they would no longer be able to talk, Scarlett stopped and took a deep breath. “Hopefully this is fun. Should we have a special text word like we do at clubs in case one of us needs help?”

“Great idea, yes. How about our usual word, pickle?”

“Okay. Don’t leave me right away, please.”

“I won’t. It isn’t like I’m going to go get it on with the first man that texts me.” Angela laughed.

Scarlett wasn’t so sure about that. Not that she was calling her friend a slut, but she was definitely a little looser then Scarlett was.

“Let’s go,” Scarlett said, because if they didn’t go now she might chicken out.

Welcome Melissa, it's great to have you here today.  Can you start off by telling us a little about yourself…

My life is like the Brady Bunch but without Alice.  We are a blended family with four children. Born and raised in a rural town in Ohio, everyone knew who I was growing up.  If I got a speeding ticket, you can be assured that my parents heard about it before I arrived home. Thinking to escape the horrors of small town living, I moved to Michigan and ended up in an even smaller town. We have only one light in town. 

I’ve worked as a blogger, book reviewer, teacher, and editor over the last twenty years.  Writing has always been a passion of mine and one that I’m glad that I can satisfy today.

What or who initially inspired you to become a writer?

My mom was my first inspiration.  When I was younger, she wrote a romance novel and tried to get it published.  There wasn’t such a thing as e-publishing or computers, and I remember her writing her story on the old typewriter in our family room. Her dedication and drive to get published was a part of the reason why I wanted to write.  It allows me to be close to her.

What kind of research do you do for a novel and how extensive do you get?

When I need to, I enjoy doing extensive research.  I take a look at every piece of information that I can find on the subject.  When I was working on my story, Forever Love, I researched Alzheimer’s.  I wanted my character to be realistic and it required me to really understand the disease.

Do you have a special place you like to do your writing? Such as an office, a spare room, the dining room table, your couch?

 I love to write at the kitchen table or kitchen island.  It allows me to be a part of the action, close to the food and drinks, and still be relaxed.  I have written my stories on my couch curled up with the dogs and a blanket or in bed as my husband sleeps next to me.  When the muse comes, I have to write.

As a reader, what types of works do you like to read and do you think they influence the genre/genres you write in?

My favorite genres to read are paranormal romance.  I love shape shifters, magic, and kick-butt characters.  However, I haven’t written in that genre yet.  Never say never! 

What is your favorite method of writing...as in laptop, desktop, Ipad or the old fashioned pencil and paper?? And do you plot out your story or go with the flow of your muse?

 I MUST have my computer.  It goes where I go, the doctor’s office, my honeymoon, or bed.  It is the only way that I write.  It gives me a safe way to write and save my ideas.  I don’t plot out my ideas, although I do write down plot bunnies when they come to me.  Otherwise I wouldn’t remember them.  But I do write with the flow of my muse.  Some days it flows like water from the faucet while other days it is a mere trickle.

When you need a break or some time off from the trials of being a writer, what can you be found doing?

When I need a break from writing, I can be found reading and reviewing books, or working as an editor.  I am always busy.  There isn’t a part of my life that isn’t centered around books.  They are my passion and my escape from the real world.

Is there anything about yourself nobody knows that you would like to share with our readers??

My two dogs are named after characters from some of my favorite TV shows, CSI and CSI:Miami.  They are like my little babies and I spoil them rotten!

My ideal romantic vacation is anywhere that I can spend the time with my husband, great weather and enjoy some time away from the daily worries.  :)
