Author, author... Sorcha Mowbray

....read all about her !!!

Please help  me extend a big welcome to..

Sorcha Mowbray

Hi Sorcha, so great to have you here with us.  Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m an office dweller by day and a romance writer by night whenever I can squeeze it in. I’m also an avid romance reader. But aren’t we all? I am married and live in Southern California with my hubby and my cats. God! I sound like the future cat lady! LOL!

Do real life events find their way into your stories?

So far, not really. Mostly because I’ve written historical romance. I have a contemporary erotic story coming out that has only a teensiest bit of real life in it. I mean, I did work in a Mergers & Acquisition firm in New York once upon a time. None of the events in the story have ever actually occurred!

Do you ever mimic family members or people you know when you choose characters?

I don’t consciously choose to, but I won’t say personality traits don’t make it in. J Little bits here and there, but never a whole person just cut from real life and pasted into my book.

Do you find yourself going back to the same inspiration for each story or is it always something different?

Oh, always something different. I get ideas from all kinds of places. Movies, songs, and even scenarios I play in my head. I love to play the “What if?” game with myself.

When do you write?  Early morning? During the day sometime or all day?  After the kids go to bed?

I squeeze it in when I can. Most times I write at night or weekends. But there are days when I get a little in at work on breaks and what not. I’ve been known to scratch out a few pages in long hand just to appease the need to write.

How do you feel about marketing your book?

I don’t really mind most of the time. In fact, I mostly love talking about my books. I get so excited about each new baby I mean book.

What social sites do you feel work best for marketing?

I don’t know to be honest. I think it depends on what social media works for you personally. I try to do Facebook, but I’m pretty sure I suck at it because I just don’t know what to say there. Twitter is more my speed since it is little bits of text in a stream. I am also trying another endeavor with a forum on my site. I like this idea a lot because it is more than just about me or my books. I want it to be a place where lovers of erotic romance can hang out and talk books, characters, or hell swap recipes!

Do you like to pitch stories to your publisher or do you wait until you have written the story and have a final manuscript to turn in?

So far I haven’t had the luxury of pitching story ideas. I would love to try to do that, but for now I am still in the write it and then sell it mode.

Is there any other genre that you would love to try writing?  If so, what is it?

Write or wrong I think I have my fingers in all the pies I really want to be in. LOL! Oh wait…maybe something in the Urban Fantasy area. I do love a good UF story.

Do you always/ever see yourself as the heroine/hero when you write a story?

God no! I like to think I’m more astute than they are sometimes. But then again, I am human. I’m sure I’ve done equally dense things as them.

Just for fun, I have a few personal questions,
Favorite 5
1)      Favorite Male Actor  - Vincent D’Onofrio (he is such a fabulous character actor!)
2)      Favorite vehicle – Anyting fast. I have a lead foot but not the car to go with it.
3)      Favorite way to relax – A good book, my bed, and a glass of wine
4)      Favorite ice cream – Cookie Dough!
5)      Favorite outfit – Black pencil skirt, red peep toe heels, white blouse, and black cardigan – I may or may not sport my specs depending on my mood
And for a bonus:  If you could pick any place in the world to live, besides where you are now, where would it be?  (Of course, without the hindrance of jobs or money needed)
Some tropical island. I want to lounge on the beach and then stroll to my patio to write! Le sigh.

Love Reclaimed

Owner of one of the most successful brothels in London, Madame Marie Marchander has seen
and done it all. Jaded by the hand life dealt her, she gave up on love the night her virginity was auctioned off twenty years earlier. But then the boy, now a man, she once loved walks in to her establishment.

Jonathan Pierce, Baron Heartfield, had waited too long to save the woman he loved. A man no longer bound by the vows taken as a boy nor under the influence of his father, he is determined to woo and win the heart of the only woman he ever loved. The fact she was forced in to prostitution is of little consequence beyond the guilt he bears for not interceding with her father.
Resolved to prove to Jonathan that she is not in need of saving, nor is she an appropriate wife, Marie agrees to take him as a lover for six months. Steadfast in his love, he launches an assault on her heart with all the strategy his years in the military afford him. His only goal, to reclaim her love.

Excerpt #1

Madame Marchander paused from the conversation to survey her packed main salon. A deep sense of satisfaction settled in her bones. Philippe had informed her most of the rooms were occupied at present, and the card room bustled as well.

Business remained excellent.

Her gaze drifted across the room and collided with the tall figure of a man who impeded her view as he stood over the small group of fawning gents arranged at her feet. Shifting directions, her gaze swept down and then up the masculine form. Arriving at his face, the blood in her head deserted her as an older but all too-familiar face swam within her vision. Jonathan Pierce, currently styled the Baron of Heartfield according to her sources, had been her first love.

One of the men noticed her distress and patted her hand. "Madame Marchander, are you not well?"

Her head swam as the room closed in on her. Why was he there? What could he want? Was it presumptuous to assume he could be looking for her? She rose and the men parted so she could pass. "Please, I fear I am a bit warm with so many of you crowded around. I think a breath of air would be best."

"Madame, please allow me to escort you." Baron Heartfield slipped her hand into the crook of his arm and led her toward the French doors open onto the rear gardens.

"Do I know you, sir?" Hiding behind formality and time, she opted to continue pretending Marie Doring no longer existed.

"Baron Heartfield, Madame Marchander, or may I call you Marie as I once did?" Familiar blue eyes sparkled as he swept aside her deflection.

"Madame Marchander will do." Anger overcame her initial distress. What brought him to The Market? Why resurrect ancient history? She had not heard he was low on funds, so it was doubtful he intended blackmail. If the gentry of Coventry learned what had become of Miss Marie Doring, it might cause a ripple of scandal, but her sisters were long married and could weather the storm. They had little contact, the occasional bit of correspondence and the annual Christmas card being all she allowed.

Her skirts brushed past the doorframe as they attained the patio. The cool air, brisk and refreshing, snapped her back after the shock of seeing him for the first time in twenty years.

"I see." He paused. "Very well, I’ll permit you to hide behind formality for now. You look beautiful as ever." Warm, strong fingers stroked the bare skin of her hand he held captive.

"You will permit me?" Her spine stiffened in indignation while she arched one eyebrow at the infuriating man. "My Lord, you may be a peer of the realm, but I am the queen of my domain. I could easily have you removed from the premises and refuse you entrance in the future."

"Don’t get your feathers ruffled. It is good to see you again."

"Is it?"

Sorcha Mowbray is a mild mannered office worker by day…okay, so she is actually a mouthy, opinionated, take charge kind of gal who bosses everyone around; but she definitely works in an office. At night she writes romance so hot she sets the sheets on fire! Just ask her slightly singed husband.

She is a longtime lover of historical romance, having grown up reading Johanna Lindsey and Judith McNaught. Then she discovered Thea Devine and Susan Johnson. Holy cow! Heroes and heroines could do THAT? From there, things devolved into trying her hand at writing a little smexy. Needless to say, she liked it and she hopes you do too!

Should’ve Know Better

Cassandra Carr

Sara Jenkins is a self-professed math geek and hockey fanatic. She's thrilled when the Buffalo Sting of the NHL hire her as an advisor because she can marry her two loves into the perfect job.

Sebastian St. Amant is a young French-Canadian hockey player looking to make the jump from the minors to the big leagues. His lifelong dream is within reach, but he needs to convince the Sting's management and coaches he's ready for the NHL.

Sara and Sebastian meet, and sparks fly immediately. Both want to succeed at their jobs, but they can't ignore the growing attraction between them. Of course, a relationship is out of the question since Sara works for the Sting and Sebastian is a player -- and one fifteen years her junior. But the impossible becomes the necessary as Sara and Sebastian find they can't fight their attraction any longer. Even if everything crashes around them, though, they'll still win the ultimate prize - each other.

Excerpt:

Sarah Jenkins scooted to the edge of the seat in her SUV as she stared at the hulking building in front of her. The August sunshine was only partially to blame for the bead of sweat running down the side of her neck. She couldn’t afford to screw this up. After wiping her damp palms on her skirt, she slid out of the car and hit the alarm remote. Turning, she bounced off a hard object and stumbled backward from the force of the impact, letting out an involuntary grunt. The immoveable object was a man, and what a man he was. He had a body like granite, with chiseled features, and was casually attired in shorts and a T-shirt clinging for dear life to his arms and chest. The guy could’ve been a sculpture.

Yum.

“Are you all right?”

Her heart pounded in her ears due to the fight or flight reaction from their collision, paired with the pure, inexplicable rush of lust he evoked.

“I’m, um…” Sarah cleared her throat. Talk, you idiot. “I’m fine.”

Her cheeks flamed as she ducked her head. Was this what scientists meant when they said women were attracted to males they sensed had the strongest DNA? Between his killer body, light green eyes, and sexily tousled head of hair, he looked like he’d just jumped out a cologne ad in GQ. As far as she could see, his DNA was damn near perfect.

It was hard to miss the long, thorough once-over he gave her, leaving her hot and feverish—a reaction she couldn’t attribute purely to the blazing heat or her frazzled nerves.

Their gazes collided and he stared at her with a glimmer of male interest. She wasn’t sure why he’d be interested in her. He was gorgeous, and she was, well, a nerd, for want of a better word. Her eyes were drawn to full lips that would’ve looked feminine on other men, but there was nothing feminine or soft about him. Hard, sinewy muscles stretched over his arms, legs, and torso, but despite his size and musculature he managed to look lean rather than bulky. He reminded her of a panther readying to strike, and her breathing kicked up another notch. Sarah shook her head to clear it. She had a new job to focus on right now and that was the only thing that was important. It had to be. She couldn’t afford to screw this chance up.

“After you,” he said, moving back a step and motioning for her to pass. His voice had a hint of an accent. French-Canadian, perhaps? It rolled over her like a gentle breeze.

“Thank you. And I’m sorry about running into you.”

“I’m not.” He gave her a one-sided, incredibly hot smile.

She needed to get into the building before she did something stupid like offer herself to him as a human buffet.

Author, author...

...read all about her !!!

Welcome Lia, great to have you here.  Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Hi! Thanks for having me. I’m a mother of two young adults (son is 20, daughter is 19), two crazy kitties, a wife, and a writer. I love being random and silly, but also have a serious and analytical side.

What did you want to be when you were growing up or did you always want to be a writer?

I’ve always been somewhat of a dreamer. My brain was, and still is, always turning with stories. I just didn’t know that I could actually make a living at writing when I was younger. I did it for fun in middle school through high school.

When did you first start writing?

I started writing in 2008. I read a vampire romance series and was hooked on the paranormal. I read everything I got my hands on. My muse perked up and I looked into RWA and publishing options, then started writing! Back then I was a pantzer and I have many unfinished stories to prove it. LOL. When I finally got a series idea and finished my first novel, I joined a critique group and had a blast learning from other authors.

What is a typical writing day like for you?

I have two types. The work day and the weekend. M-F I get up at 5 am, turn on my computer, do some promo, surf Facebook and Twitter. I either work on publishing/admin stuff or get about 200-500 words down on my current WIP before leaving for work. When I get home from work, around 6pm, I fix dinner and start writing.

The weekends are filled with writing, mom and wife stuff, and Fated Desires admin duties.

Do you have an specific routine you follow or specific items you need with you when you write?

Music! My office is right next to my son’s room, as in the rooms are connected. So I need my headphones with my playlists.

What is your favorite part of writing?  Is there anything you don’t like about being a writer?

Everything! I’m even beginning to like the marketing part. LOL.

What is your favorite length of book to write?  (Short story, novella, full length novel) Why?

My comfort word count right now is between 40k – 50k. But I enjoy writing the shorter stories too.

How does your family feel about your writing and you being an author?

My husband and son tell people all the time that I’m a writer. They even pass out my business cards. Everyone is very supportive.

Is there a to-be-read waiting on your bedside table?

Yep, and on my shelf, in my Kindle, and a few Audibles on my iPod. LOL

For fun, I have a few personal questions,

Favorite 5

1)    Favorite Holiday Halloween

2)    Favorite Drink non-alcoholic, coffee; alcoholic, red wine

3)    Favorite Author Too many! Seriously, I find a new author to love every day.

4)    Favorite Book I think I have one for every series I read!

5)    Favorite Animal I’m a cat person.

And for a bonus:  What is a typical mood for you?  And is your mood different when you’re writing?

Silly. I have to see the humor in everything because my job is a little stressful and I have road rage from driving in traffic for 2 hours a day. My writing mood varies on the scene I’m writing. *wink*

Is there an upcoming or current release you would like to share with us today and where can we find it?

Yes! A Tiger’s Claim released on March 17th. It’s book 1 of my new shifter series, Ashwood Falls. Here’s the blurb and an excerpt.

 A Tiger’s Claim - Ashwood Falls, book 1

By Lia Davis

Blurb

As the Alpha’s only daughter Shayna Andrews has always been treated like a rare gem, protected like royalty, and she’s suffocating.  Her longing to be independent has driven her to sneak out one evening after dinner. After relishing in being able to run free without an escort, she finds herself face-to-face with the enemy, miles from home, and nearly loses her life until a lone wolf comes to her aid.

Travis Hunter’s main objective is to destroy the Onyx Pack—a group of drug using, murdering rogue shifters. His seek-and-destroy plans are put on hold when he rescues a female from a brutal attack. The beautifully exotic tiger shifter, Shayna, stirs a passion he thought died with his long-lost mate.

When Shay’s first heat cycle slams into her, Travis has no choice but to submit to her needs—and his own. But there is always a price to sleeping with the Pack princess. Not only will they have to face her Pack, Shay and Travis will have to deal with a mating that is beyond a single night and could have consequences more than either of them had thought. And when Travis finds out Shay wears the enemy’s brand, things will go from bad to worse.

Warning: One alpha female who doesn’t take no for an answer, a wolf with more on the line than just his heart, and a combustible attraction that’s sure to cause more than one sweaty night.

Find it on:

Find it in Print (also includes the prequel, Winter Eve):

Excerpt:

It took ten minutes too long to reach his small one-bedroom cabin. Once inside, he carried her straight to the bedroom, flung the comforter back, and laid the female on his bed. As soon as her leg touched the mattress, she groaned in pain. Frowning, he walked to his dresser, grabbed a pair of joggers, and put them on.

He went back to the bed and sat down next to her, jarring her hip. Another painful groan made him pause. He lifted her sweater to undo her jeans so he could look at the wound. When he touched the button, she flung opened her eyes, screamed, and swung her arms wildly.

Damn it.

He fought with her for a few seconds before he got hold of her arms and pinned them to the bed. “I’m not going to hurt you.”

Her eyes held a wild fear he hoped never to see in a female again. The claw marks etched into both her cheeks fueled his fury more. He breathed in then out slowly.

Calm down before you scare her more than she already is.

“My name is Travis Hunter. You’re safe.”

She blinked then looked around the room. “Where…am I?”

He growled low in his throat. The tremor in her voice cut through him. “My home.”

She tried to break from his hold, and he tightened his grip. “You’re safe. I killed the rogues.”

The woman stilled and searched his face, the wildness still heavy in her blue eyes. “You’re a wolf.”

He smiled and nodded. “And you’re a tiger.”

“A white tiger.”

To match her white-blond hair. “And a beautiful one.”

Author, author.... Jessica E. Subject :)

....read all about her !!!

Today we have a guest post from a fantastic author !

Please welcome  Jessica E. Subject

Hello Krista and readers! Thank you for having me!
Here’s an interview with Leanne, two weeks after her accident.
Jessica: Hello, Leanne! I’m glad you are able to visit with us today.
Leanne: It’s a pleasure to be here.
Jessica: I see you still have your bandages on your arm. Do you feel comfortable telling us about your accident?
Leanne: I guess. Sometimes, it’s hard, but I’ll try my best. My parents were away, and had left me and the farmhand, Jake, in charge. I wanted to go out with my friends that night, but the day just wasn’t going right. First, a bearing seized on our auger, so I had to borrow another. Then, the cows got lose. If that wasn’t bad enough, my boyfriend called. We had a fight, and broke up. So, by this time, I’m completely frustrated and not thinking straight. All I had to do was get some grain up into the grain bin, and I was done for the night. Jake had already agreed to milk the cows for me. But then the borrowed auger jammed. Instead of turning off the tractor like I’d been trained my entire life, I left it running. I thought I could get it running again without much fuss. And I did. But I slipped on some grain that had spilled out of the hopper. I fell. Trying to brace myself, I shoved my hand forward, but it went into the auger…
Jessica: I’m sorry for your loss. I’m sure life had been very difficult for you since then.
Leanne: Yes. Since I lost my dominant hand, I’ve had to relearn how to do everything. I can’t print my name without it looking like I’m in kindergarten. Getting dressed is a chore in itself. I mean, have you ever tried to pull up your underwear with only one hand. Wedgie, every time. And several times a day, I end up banging my stump, because I forget that I don’t have a hand. That’s just basic things. It’s even harder working out in the barn.
Jessica: How supportive has your family been since your accident?
Leanne: Very! They are wonderful. They push me when I need it, and back off when I’ve had enough. But the most support has come from Jake. He had never let me give up. He’s been by my side every day, helping me complete the chores on the farm, proving to me that I can still do it. He’s a good friend. I…I just wish I would have seen him as more than that before my accident.
Jessica: Why?
Leanne: Well, he’s always been there for me. I just didn’t see it before. But now, it’s too late. I’m damaged goods.
Jessica: He might surprise you. Thanks for joining me today, Leanne. I wish you the very best, and I hope Jake remains by your side.

Excerpt:
A million needles pierced her wrist. She had to get away from the fire. Leanne flicked open her eyes, screaming, longing for the agony to stop.
White walls surrounded her. Machines beeped. Taking in the new scenery, she closed her mouth, the pain forgotten. Bags filled with clear liquids as well as blood hung from a metal pole. She followed the tubes from the bags into her left hand. Was that where the burn came from? She glanced at the other arm, the end of which was wrapped in thick bandages. The image of spinning blades and her mangled flesh flashed before her eyes. She screamed again, tears falling down her cheeks. This can’t be happening.
Bodies rushed into the room, many in scrubs. With her vision blurred, she didn’t recognize anyone. All strangers. She was in the foreign place by herself. A nightmare. Has to be.
“Shh, calm down, sweetie. You’ll be okay.”
A familiar voice. She glanced to her other side to see her mom standing beside her, her eyes glassy. She held her hand, but Leanne couldn’t feel it, only the throbbing which had returned to her other one, the one that was…gone? She groaned, turning on her side, and pulled her knees up to her chest.
“Mom, is it really…?”
She brushed her fingers over her forehead. “Don’t worry about it right now. You need to rest.”
“It hurts so bad.”
“I know.” Her mother stroked her face again. “But the nurses will help it go away.”
“Leanne,” one of the nurses hovering around her said. “I want you to take deep breaths and count backward from ten.”
“Ten.” She sucked in air and cried out in agony.
Between clenched teeth, she continued. Anything to stop the pain. “Nine.”
Ice traveled through her veins. “Eight.”
The throbbing slowly ebbed away. Seven.
Darkness swept over her and pulled her down with it.
