Midnight Kiss Giveaway Hop + Harper's Wish Excerpt & Giveaway

I love the first kiss in a book and in real life actually.  I've had a couple of those myself and they are ones I definitely won't ever forget.  I think what I might like even more is that moment right before that first kiss....the anticipation and nervousness of touching your lips to his, wondering if it'll be worth the wait.  Will you do it right?  Will he do it right?  Then once your lips touch, that feel of falling into the unknown bliss...hmmmm.

Well anywho, there's a giveaway for this hop.
A main giveaway sponsored by Liquid Silver, a $25 gift voucher for Liquid Silver Books.

I'd also like to share an excerpt of the first kiss from Harper's Wish.

Fin peeked through the opening. “Hey, there. I just wanted to make sure you had everything you

needed.”

“Holy crap! You scared me.” She stepped back with a hand over her heart and tried to catch her breath.
Fin came inside in all his shirtless cowboy glory and closed the door behind him. “Dang, I’m sorry. I
seem to have a habit of doing that.” Warm palms wrapped around her bare arms. His touch took way the chill, but created a whole different set of emotions instead.
She inhaled the scent of his aftershave and glanced up at him, noticing the ends of his hair, the color of burnished oak, were still damp. A vivid mental picture of him naked in the shower had her heart racing again.

Fin’s eyes darkened and grew hungry, as if she were his next meal. Her gaze traveled to his lips, lush
and begging to be kissed. The magnetic energy crackled between them, and her body swayed toward Fin’s bare chest. Her palms burned hot at the contact with his flesh.

His lips crushed hers, setting her nerve endings on fire.

She returned his kiss with eagerness. Fin’s hands roamed over her back, then lower while she moved
her fingers over his muscles with a feather-light touch and into his hair. Harper couldn’t fight the attraction a second longer. She sighed as his fingers fisted into the t-shirt she wore, edging it higher to reveal her stomach.
“I’m sorry for being so forward, but I’ve wanted to do this since the moment I saw you.”
She expelled a soft moan of pleasure to encourage him.
Fin had the material around her shoulders when a knock sounded at the door—just before it started to push open.
“Hey, are you two oka—”
“Kaleb, don’t open the door!” Fin yelled as Harper shrieked and pulled her shirt back into place.
She heard Kaleb curse in the hallway, and with a muttered apology, his footsteps padded away,
growing quieter the further from the door he got.
Fin had wrapped Harper in his embrace to shield her from Kaleb’s view, but pulled away to look down at her. After a moment, he rested his forehead against hers. “I’m sorry about that. Damn. Every time I turn around, I’m apologizing to you. I sure as hell won’t be apologizing for kissing you, though.”
“I hope not. I wouldn’t accept it anyway. I wanted that just as much as I think you did.” Her heart still hammered against her ribcage.
“Oh, I definitely did. I’m only sorry Kaleb interrupted when he did and ruined the mood.”
She placed a sweet kiss on the tip of his nose and pulled away. “Perhaps this time it was for the best. I just met you yesterday, and while I’m sure I’ll be cursing myself in about an hour, maybe it was a sign for us to take things slow.”
“You’re right. I don’t know what came over me. Well, I do know, but I need to control it better.” His face reddened a little. “There’s just something about you that makes me nuts, besides your beautiful face. You’re sweet and funny, and your smile lights up the whole room.”
Harper thwacked Fin in the shoulder, cheeks burning. “Stop, you’re embarrassing me.” Despite her
protest, she couldn’t seem to wipe the silly grin from her face. “One last kiss, then you’re leaving. I need my beauty sleep.” She grabbed him around the neck and planted a doozy on him, then pushed him out and shut the door.
“Good night, Harper,” she heard him call from the hallway.
Smiling in spite of herself, Harper folded the clothes she’d left lying on the bed, shut off the lamp, and
crawled between the cold sheets.
“How the heck am I supposed to sleep now?”

Top Two Christmas Foods from our authors of Winter's Sweet Kiss
Michelle Ziegler, Terri Rochenski, Annabelle Blume, Lily Carlyle & Shaya Roy

Michelle Ziegler:
Homemade mashed potatoes and ham.  In that order too.  I love traditional.

Terri Rochenski:

Candied sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie.  YUMMMMMMMMMMM

Annabelle Blume:

1.  Savory Mashed Potatoes - I don't care what they are on the side of, I love them!
8 medium potatoes, peeled, boiled, and mashed
     1/2 cup milk
     1/2 cup sour cream
     8 oz. cream cheese
     1/4 chives, chopped
     1 tsp. salt
     1 tsp. white pepper
When potatoes are mashed, mixed in salt, pepper, milk, sour cream and cream cheese until smooth.  Transfer into baking dish.  Top with chives.  Cover with tin foil and bake for 20-30 min at 325 deg.
2.  Cranberry Sauce - It's one of those foods you can lie to yourself about, claiming it's healthy.
     1 cup sugar
     1 cup water
     1 pkg fresh cranberries
Simmer until cranberries burst.  Let cool.  Chill in ridge overnight.  VOILA!

Lily Carlyle:
Cookies!  Despite many years of taste tests (and the resulting pounds), I still haven't found my very favorite!  But if anyone has a good recipe for thick, iced sugar cut-out cookies, please share.  That's what I'm craving right now!
Eggnog.  I have to confess, I prefer the pasteurized kind you buy in the dairy section of the grocery store, not the homemade kind.  And amazingly (for those who know me), I like it alcohol-free.

Shaya Roy:
1)  Not technically a food, but a drink.  Apple cider.  It's tangy, sweet and has apples.  What's not to love?
2)  Gingerbread cookies.  They're so cute I almost can't bear to eat them.  Almost.

Excerpt
Angela broke off as she heard a chuckle. A male chuckle. Had she gotten in the wrong car? She
released the seatbelt she’d finally managed to grasp, which hit the car door with a loud thwack, and shot a glance at the driver’s seat.
Nick.
Suddenly, she wasn’t cold anymore.
“Oh my God! When did you get back?” She flung her arms around his neck. Rebecca’s older brother was a Marine who had been on deployment. “I can’t believe you’re here! Becks didn’t tell me. You didn’t even send an email.” Angela was a little hurt.
  “You’re choking me.”
“Oh. Sorry. I’m excited to see you.” Angela let go, happy but embarrassed. She’d spent years squelching her feelings for Nick. She was obviously out of practice.

About Michelle Ziegler
Michelle’s imagination started spilling out onto paper the second she could scribble.  Her drawing never improved, but her love affair with words continued and evolved as she became infatuated with one story after another.  If life could be written, Michelle would write everyone’s ending as a happily ever after.
Michelle grew up in Chicago and later moved to Colorado. Her husband still makes fun of her Midwest accent. By day she is an engineer, wife, and mother to two kids and two dogs. Her sanity survives on the pages she writes, even if her toddler is trying to drive her to the edge one temper tantrum at a time.

Alexa Bourne with Liar, Liar @alexabourne

Liar, Liar
By
Alexa Bourne

Blurb:

Unable to protect her mother from her father as a child, Devin McQueen has made it her mission as an adult to protect as many abused women and children as she can. The rare moments she’s not consumed with work as a victims’ advocate, she limits her involvements to safe, predictable men….until she meets bounty hunter Grady Cooper. He is big, bold, brash, and has no problem speaking his mind.

Growing up in a broken home, Grady realized early on that good deeds had a price.  To survive, he learned to weigh every decision by what he could gain. Unfortunately, the successful, solitary life he’s worked so hard to create spins out of control when demons from his past shake his confidence. His boss has given him one last chance—bring in Devin’s latest client quickly, and quietly and maybe he’ll still have a job. It didn’t sound unreasonable until he met Devin.

Suddenly, Grady must make a decision: save his career or follow his heart?

Excerpt:

If Grady Cooper had any hope of salvaging his professional reputation, he needed to charm Devin McQueen into giving him what she’d never given any other man.

He tucked his keys into his cargo shorts, stared up at the five-story office building and cursed the humidity.

And his dilemma.

Needing anyone was bad enough. Being forced to rely on a complete stranger to help prove he wasn’t a menace to society was as appealing as the Red Sox using his head for batting practice. If she refused to help him, he’d lose his job for sure.

“That’s not going to happen,” he whispered. He’d do whatever he had to, promise her the world even, to get himself out of this mess and restore his reputation. By the time she realized he had no intention of honoring his pledge, he’d be a free man and he could get back to chasing the bad guys instead of being labeled one.

Whatever it took.

He pushed the glass door open and flew up the stairs two at a time to the third floor. As he walked down the hallway, he glanced at the business names on the doors: law offices, non-profit offices, save the bleeding heart offices. Rooms of people he’d probably chased a bail jumper for at one time or another.

Loud thumps filtered into the hallway from somewhere up ahead.

The hairs on the back of his neck stood up. Trade rule number one: Always expect the worst. Still, the noises could have been any number of things: a fallen chair, a muffled voicemail message, boxes of printer paper being dropped. It could have been nothing connected to this woman.

As he got closer to the door with Soul Survivors carved on it, the name of McQueen’s business, the noises got louder. Glass shattered. A series of thumps passed from behind the door. A woman’s voice flew through the walls like a high-pitched war cry.

What if someone wanted Devin McQueen even more than Grady did?

Too bad. He had to put his own needs first.

Adrenaline pushed him. He turned the doorknob.

Damn it. Locked.

He shoved his shoulder against the wooden door. It budged. Barely. Inside, more glass broke. A male voice growled through a string of swear words.

Whoever stood on the other side of this door could not have her.

Grady gritted his teeth and jammed his shoulder against the door again. This time, it flew open and hurled him into the office.

Silence reigned across the room. With his shoulder throbbing, he scanned the scene. One upended chair, one thug cradling his nuts, the other, older one, bleeding from his nose and one wild-eyed woman in the center of it all. The bleeding man had his arms wrapped around the woman’s chest, crushing her…assets under his forearms.

Grady bit back a grin. If this was Devin McQueen, then some of the rumors were true. She could hold her own. But now she didn’t need to. “What’s the matter, guys? Couldn’t find anyone your own size to pick on?”

Blitz: Summertime Dream by Babette James

Summertime Dream
Babette James

Blurb:

The Fourth of July is over, but for these summer lovers the fireworks have just begun.

An unexpected inheritance brings business consultant Christopher Gordon from Los Angeles to quaint Falk’s Bend. He’s carved a week from his demanding schedule to list his great-grandparents’ house for sale and explore his roots. However, disturbing family secrets and the sweet temptation of writer Margie Olsson derail his plans, challenging him to seize the elusive dream missing from his hectic life— love.

A recent brush with death shook Margie’s life, but not her dreams and she’s ready to move forward. Only, standing up to her loving, over-protective family isn’t easy. Helping Christopher explore the derelict mansion and unravel his grandmother’s mysterious past should be a harmless fun taste of independence. But when her experimental summer fling ignites into unexpected love, how can her small town dreams work with his big city life?

Excerpt:

Beautiful, isn’t it? I fell so in love with this place when I was little and dreamed I’d live in a house like this someday.” Margie laughed. “Of course, in my dreams it was a bit less rundown.”

“I’d imagine so. Interested in buying?”

“Oh, if only I could, I would in an instant. I’m sure the property alone is worth far more than I can afford.  It’s a huge piece of land. And the repairs and restoration...” Longing swelled. She sighed. Someone else would buy and live in her dream home.

Quiet fell between them for a while. Bees buzzed in the clover. Birds sang, chirped, and flitted. A hummingbird whizzed past. Two more ducks joined the first amid quiet bickering quacks. Dandelion fluff drifted by on an unfelt breeze.

A truck rattled down the lane, breaking the moment.

“Suppose we ought to head back...” Christopher turned, so close their arms brushed, but instead of retreating, he hesitated. Their eyes locked. Where dismay and frustration had filled his green eyes, want simmered. The heavy air electrified.

You need a change.

On a surge of bewildering crazy courage, she stretched up and kissed him. The brief brush of lips to lips left her shaken and her heart pounding, like she had  just come up for air.

His eyes widened in his serious, craggy face.

No, oh, no. Blowing out an unsteady breath, she pressed a hand to her stomach. She’d carried her day’s adventure one impetuous step too far. Her heroines were the daring part of her. She’d never even kissed on a first date before, and this wasn’t even a date.

Before the apology fluttering in her mind could break free, he cupped her cheek and touched his mouth down on hers.
