Author, author...

...read all about it!

Today we have a wonderful author...

Janie Emaus

Welcome Janie, So glad to have you today.  you tell us a little about yourself?

First off, I’m a Taurus.  I’m not stubborn, I just like things done my way.  Usually.  But I have a very positive attitude and always listen to what everyone else has to say. And I rarely get into arguments.

What or who initially inspired you to become a writer?

I think I was just born this way.  From the time I could walk, I was carrying around books.

What kind of research do you do for a novel and how extensive do you get?
For Mercury In Retro Love, I did a great deal of research into astrology.  And picked the brain of my friend and famous astrologer – Terence Guardino.

For my current novel, I’m trying to figure out a way to time travel!

Do you have a special place you like to do your writing? Such as an office, a spare room, the dining room table, your couch?
I usually write in my office, but I can write just about anywhere.

As a reader, what types of works do you like to read and do you think they influence the genre/genres you write in?

I love reading Women’s Fiction, all type of YA and middle grade and literary novels.  I try not to read the same genre that I’m working in at the time.

What is your favorite method of writing...as in laptop, desktop, Ipad or the old fashioned pencil and paper??  And do you plot out your story or go with the flow of your muse?
I write on a desktop and a laptop.  And I rarely plot out my books.  I have a beginning and I know how I want it to end.  I usually get there, but with a lot of surprises along the way.  And I figure if I’m surprised, my readers should be, too.  Hopefully, in a good way.

When you need a break or some time off from the trials of being a writer, what can you be found doing?
When I’m not spending time with my characters, I love walking, reading, swimming, and hanging out with family and friends.

For fun, I have a few personal questions,

 Your Favorite 5
1) Favorite color -  Green
2) Favorite dessert -  Cheese
3) Favorite Season -  Fall
4) Favorite sad song-   The Way We Were
5) Favorite Romantic movie -  Dr. Zhivago

And a bonus, what is your ideal romantic vacation??
Anywhere on a beach, with my husband.  Watching the waves, listening to the seagulls, feeling the warm sun on my face.  Drinking coffee at sunrise.  And a cocktail at sunset.

And between, enjoying each moment.

Where can our readers find you??

Is there an upcoming or current release  you would like to share with us today and where can we find it?

My current YA Mercury In Retro Love is now available in ebook form and paperback.

A story about crushes, conflicts and astrological confusion.

Finally, after years of making love predictions for her friends, fifteen-year-old astrologer, Emma Seigel, sees a boyfriend in her future. But there’s one big problem. Mercury is heading for Retrograde in four weeks, and she sure knows what that means. It’s like an astrological PMS. A disastrous time to start a new relationship.

Using her school newspaper column, Emmastrology, she sets a plan in motion and within a week lands hottie Evan Randolph as her boyfriend. She’s a Taurus. He’s a Capricorn. Both earth signs. What could be more perfect? But is he as perfect as her prediction claims him to be? The stars are telling her it’s right. But her heart says it’s all wrong.

Everyday her feelings are growing stronger for someone else, a Leo, so totally not the sign for her. And to make matters even worse, Emma’s actions, caused by her unflinching belief in astrology, get her in trouble with her best friends in the whole world.

Time is running out. Can Emma straighten up this mess she’s in before Mercury goes Retrograde again?

Today is day 4 of the  A HERO'S BLOG HOP!! It will run thru Tuesday July 31 so don't wait, comment  as soon as you're done reading this and then make sure to visit all the other
blogs as well  :)

The point of this blog hop is to talk about our heros so I would like to introduce you to my hero......or at least the hero from my current release :)

I love this hero because he is just so sweet but sexy at the same time and of course he's a Navy man and that makes him just that much more perfect for me !

I'm going to let my hero Nicholas say a few words if you don't mind.....

Hey there, my name is Nicholas Prescott and I’m the hero in 'Second Chances'.Welcome to A Passion for Romance and let me just send thanks to Krista for letting me say a few words today.

Krista tells me this is A Hero’s Blog Hop? Interesting, so, what do you think makes a great hero?

I don’t think any of us sets out to be one, it just happens…and they come from literally all walks of life.

It's really about being completely unselfish and doing good for someone or something, an act of bravery or kindness. I sure didn’t feel much like the hero in Second Chances in the beginning. In case you aren’t familiar with the book yet, I fell in love with an amazing woman (Dana). Seriously, she was the best thing in my life and I would do anything for her or to protect her.

Well, unfortunately some things happened that I couldn’t tell her about. I was forced to make a choice and I left her. And didn’t look back, didn’t say goodbye.

Hardest day of my life…anyway….

Now for Dana, what choice did I really give her but to move on with her life without me? It wasn't an easy feat but I'm super proud of her for doing her best. She travels to Seattle Washington for her best friend's wedding but little does she know there's so much more planned for her.

The only fear now...will she deny any possibility of second chances?

I can’t really tell you what happens next but you should definitely buy the book to find out. It's a sweet romance and it's available at Ruby Lioness Press or Amazon.
~Nicholas Prescott

I think Nicholas makes a good hero becuase he was compassionate toward Dana, he couldn't stand to see her hurting. He was willing to do anything to make it up to her, to protect her, even if she didn't realize it. And of course on another note, he was a member of the Armed Services, the Navy...doing his duty to his country. Can't get much more honorable than that.

Wouldn't you love a hero like that? I have one of those heros in my own life as well...my hubby is a wonderful man and is always willing to do for me and our children before himself much like my own father was. It's the little things....when I sneeze, he blesses me. When we go somewhere, he always opens the door for me.   Qualities like that say alot about a man. I hope my son grows up to be just like him and can also be someone's hero !

So, in honor of our romance heroes and thanks to our sponsors Fated Desires Publishing, Heartthrob Haven and Carrie Ann Ryan, we all bring you A Hero's Blog Hop.

5 Alarm Lust
Canadian Heroes
Book One

by
Elyse Whyles

Survivor Gillian Hilliard is finally healing from a nightmare past. Fearing no man will ever find her attractive, she hides behind simple attire and large glasses. When Gillian meets firefighter Jack Payle, she is instantly attracted, and enjoys a wild night of sex with him. But in the cold light of day she’s torn apart by guilt and shame, and retreats to the familiar comfort of her simple, if unfulfilling, life.

After years of chasing the wrong kind of woman, Jack is shocked by the instant attraction he feels for the mousy historian with shadows in her eyes and passion simmering beneath her surface. Jack can’t get past the lust firing his blood or the memories of her response to his touch, for passionate, sexy Gillian is everything he’s ever wanted. Are they strong enough to face down the demons haunting Gillian? Can she trust the man who holds her heart with her darkest secrets and accept his help to overcome the shadows of her past? Or will the darkness destroy them both?

EXCERPT:

“That’s it, Miss Hilliard. As per your request, I leftmost of it down.” The young woman leaned down, her hand on Gilli’s shoulder. “You’re going to knock ’em dead.”
Gilli offered a short, weak laugh and patted the girl’s hand. “Thanks.” She slipped her glasses on and rose to totter toward the door on the stilettos her mother persisted she wear. As she exited, the door closed behind her with a click. Gilli turned, smacking face first into a tall, hard wall of flesh before her. Heat seared her body at the touch of his hands on the bare flesh of her back. Putting a couple of inches between them, Gilli glanced upward. Her heart dropped before galloping in place.
Dark brown hair curled over a tanned forehead, green eyes as dark as pine stared at her, bemusement sparkling in them. “Excuse me, miss.”
She shuddered at the slow drawl curling like a lover’s touch into her core. Her labia pulsed beneath the lace of her panties. A flush crept along her throat to heat her cheeks and she ducked her head to hide the wave of color washing over her face. She cleared her throat. “No, pardon me. Entirely my fault.”
Scurrying down the hall, she gasped at the sensitivity in her breasts. Heavy, full, the nipples throbbed beneath the layers of satin and lace. Desperate to cool her blood, she darted past a couple of women and into the ladies room. The thin metal door offered minimal protection as she locked herself into a stall. A thud filled the silence as she let her forehead drop and leaned against the icy metal and inhaled.
Gods above, Zeus in the flesh right before me. What I wouldn’t give to have him … but he’s not going…Arousal scorched along her veins, pooling between her legs and soaking her underwear. Like venom, her ex’s sneering tone filled her mind. You couldn’t turn a light bulb on, Gillian, sexless. You should get a boob job. Can’t count…
The soft clunk of the heavy public bathroom’s door opening preceded Barbara’s biting tone. “Gillian, don’t think I didn’t see you…”
An uneasy cringe escaped in spite of the relief at the shattered memory. Gillian squeezed her eyes shut. “Mother, can I not use the facilities without you harping at me?” Gillian smoothed her skirt down, rolling her shoulders forward in the hopes of hiding her erect nipples. “I’ll be therein a moment.”
“Well hurry up, they’ve already got everyone seated. Goodness, child, you’d think you’d remember this was my wedding!” The bathroom door clicked shut on her mother’s tirade.
With a roll of her eyes, Gillian stepped out of the stall, shot a look at her reflection in the mirror and inhaled.
“There’s no point in getting hot and bothered over the likes of him. He ain’t going to want you.” Gilli waved a hand at her reflection, a perfect imitation of her mother. “Horn-rimmed glasses, mousy-looking hair, notits. Didn’t Mike teach you a damn thing, Gillian? Men don’t want a mouse, they want a sex pot and you’re not it.”
With a quick shake of her head, she smoothed her skirt down, sucked in a deep breath, and pulled open the bathroom door. She glanced around carefully before darting into the hallway.
Pressed close to the wall, she took her place before her mother, feeling like an over-stuffed Easter egg as the wedding march began to play. A smile pasted on her face, she gripped the flowers in her hand tighter and began the slow but steady shuffle toward the preacher.
Focused on getting there without falling, Gilli gasped at the man standing next to the altar. Laughing green eyes watched her, his lips turned upward at the corners. A slight shadow covered his square jaw. The dark suit he wore clung to his broad shoulders, tucking in at his waist. She wondered if beneath his suit coat, his ass was as good as the rest of him. Embarrassed, she stepped back, narrowly missing tripping on her own gown’s hem. Her mother’s pointed clearing of her throat drew her attention to the woman sashaying along, the yards and yards of tulle and lace out of place on a woman in her fifties—who’d had six previous husbands and more lovers then Gillian thought healthy. The unspoken warning in Barb’s eyes pierced clearer than any shouting match could be. There would be hell to pay if any attention slipped from the bride.
“Typical.” Gilli glared at the flowers, disgust rolling in her nauseous gut. She offered a prayer the ceremony would draw to a quick end so she could ditch the shoes, the flowers, and find a quiet corner to relax in, with the help of an expensive bottle of champagne.
She shot a glance across the aisle, heat suffusing her face when she caught sex in a cummerbund’s eye. Screw the wine—what she wouldn’t give to get lost in him. Maybe if she’d been different… Pushing aside the vague thought, she focused on the drone of her mother’s voice as she spoke her vows.

Reviews:

Toni V. Sweeney

A delightful book, even better than the others I've reviewed. In fact, I'd say this is Ruth's best so far! There...is that committing myself enough? The dialogue between Victor and Remmie, from the first quip about her name to the last line is sharp and fast and full of wit. The scenes with Remmie's cats and felinophobe Victor are amusing, and the whole story moves at a pace which makes you want to keep reading without taking a breath between words

Tori L. Ridgewood

My favourite scene was the impromptu date at the movies -- the hero's erstwhile attempts to gain the heroine's favour, and her feisty resistance, are nothing less than perfect. The back-and-forth banter reminds me of the courtship of Gilbert Blythe and Anne of Green Gables. Hartman has a direct line into my youthful daydreams about being an independent woman and falling in love

Sandra Cox

In Grin and Barrett, when two dentists are after the same location sparks fly. This was a fun read filled with good old fashioned romance.

Paranmormal Reader "Renee"

Great Book, I loved it! If you like your loves stories with a lot of sass and humor. GET THIS BOOK!

About our Author:

Ruth J. Hartman spends her days cleaning teeth, and her nights spinning sweet romantic tales that make you giggle, laugh, and all-out guffaw. She, her husband, and their two cats, love to spend time curled up in their recliners watching old Cary Grant movies. Well, the cats, Maxwell and Roxy, sit in the people's recliners. Not that the cats couldn't get their own furniture. They just choose to shed on someone else's. You know how selfish those little furry creatures can be.

Ruth, a left-handed, tooth-scraping, Jeep driving, farmhouse-dwelling romance writer uses her goofy sense of humor as she writes tales of lovable, klutzy women and the men who adore them. Ruth's husband and best friend, Garry, reads her manuscripts, rolls his eyes at her weird story ideas, and loves her in spite of her penchant for insisting all of her books have at least one cat in them. Or twelve. But hey, who's counting?

"Better Than Catnip": A woman who runs a cat rescue center falls for a handsome man. But his son is terrified of cats!

"Flossophy of Grace": The main character, Grace, is a dental hygienist who falls in love with her patient.

"Pillow Talk": A klutzy tooth fairy falls in love with her dentist.

"Purrfect Voyage": A woman and her cat are stranded on a two-week yacht cruise with a cat-hating, handsome stranger.

"Grin and Barrett": Two dentists fight growing feelings of attraction for each other, as they compete for all the new patients in their small town.

"Murphy in the Paw-Paw Patch": A cat, born without pads for his paws, makes a journey to find some. At the paw-paw patch! (Children's book).

Most of her books include cats. Her characters, like Ruth in real life, live with several cats, and love every minute of it. Well, maybe not the litter box, but you get the idea.

"Life in Mental Chains," her first book, is a true-life story about her struggle with severe OCD, which also revolves around dental offices she worked for.

Today's spotlight is...

Blurb:
For five lonely years, diamond smuggling kingpin Lucas Ramone has hidden himself from the world. With a father who has baited him all his life, made a game of trying to trip him up at every turn, Lucas will do whatever is necessary to protect what is rightfully his. What he isn’t prepared for is Lilah Benson…

Upon accepting a job in the home of her sister’s maniacal ex-fiancé, reporter Lilah Benson believes she has finally found the perfect way to make her mark on the world. Exposing the criminal endeavors of Lucas Ramone won’t soon be forgotten. But as she comes to know the man who was supposed to be her adversary, Lilah is tempted by a passion far stronger than the desire to see her name in print…

Power and control are tools of survival, critical in a world of thievery and deception. Lilah, an innocent in a land of criminals, may be the one person capable of bringing Lucas to his knees. But Lucas will stop at nothing to keep his empire secure.

He will have it all: His Fortune, His Legacy, and Lilah Benson in his bed…

Excerpt:

Feeling the warmth of tears in her eyes, Lilah rose from the table. She never became so emotional over nothing. What in God’s name was wrong with her?

Lucas’s strong hand came against her shoulder. She didn’t pull away. In fact, she had the strangest urge to just lean into him. Like somehow, he would take away all of her doubts.

"Lena’s happy in her life with her children, and with Alec Westwood," he said. "I’d never begrudge her that. All I ever wanted was her happiness."

The way he said the words, she almost believed them. He seemed to care, or at least, maybe was trying to be a better person.

"You’re trembling," he said, reaching in before she could stop him. His finger brushed her quivering lip.

Her instinct was to smack his hand. But the tingling sensation racing from mouth to spine kept her in place. Lucas’s touch was so soft. It made her crazy. She was consumed by the strongest desire for his lips to be where his finger was now.

He took her wine glass and held it out to her. "Here," he said. "This’ll calm your nerves."

Senses returning with a bang, Lilah held up two hands in protest. "Are you trying to get me drunk?" she snapped, not entirely sure whether it was him she was angrier at or herself.

"Am I that obvious?" He laughed as if the whole thing was funny, setting the glass back down.

She enjoyed being in the company of a monster—there was nothing lighthearted about it!

"I’m guessing you’ve probably been down this road too many times, hmm?" Lucas replaced his hand on her shoulder.

"What road would that be, exactly?"

His gray eyes looked deeply into hers. "I’m sure I’m not the first man who’s tried to get you into a relaxed state, Lilah."

"Actually—" She hesitated, not wanting to get so personal yet feeling she could probably tell him anything and he’d somehow understand. "It’s been a long time, longer than you’d imagine. After I finished college, I had every intention of becoming a journalist. Meaning I’d be out most of the time chasing a story despite whatever danger came with it. It’s all I’ve ever wanted, for as long as I can remember."

He nodded, coming closer. "You must have been very persistent. It takes a good deal of perseverance and sacrifice to become a success at such a young age."

Lilah sure knew that. While her friends had been enjoying their last semester of college, she’d been frantically gathering writing samples, sending them out to every newspaper who would give her the time of day. But had her father noticed? Even when she became one of the youngest reporters at the New York Times, he’d barely raised a brow.

Deep down, she knew this was why she’d accepted Raphael’s offer, even in spite of the danger that came with it. A story about Raphael Ramone’s family laundry wasn’t going to impress Blake Benson. But exposing Lucas’s diamond smuggling operation would be a print-worthy unearthing that would win her father’s admiration as well as her first Pulitzer.

She lowered her gaze. "I haven’t given up anything so wonderful."

Lucas lifted her chin. "But if it came to that, do you think you’d be willing to make that sacrifice? Give up something you want—maybe something you want more than anything—to attain some ultimate level of self-victory?"

A chill came over her at his words. Lilah came back a step, unsure of what had just happened but wanting desperately to pretend it hadn’t.

Lucas cleared his throat. "Let’s get some air, shall we?"

Something she needed desperately. She followed him to the balcony, welcoming the cool night breeze as it caressed her hot skin.

"It’s beautiful here," she said, hoping very much to steer the conversation in a new direction.

"It is." He nodded and came beside her, bracing the rail with one hand. He slipped an arm around her back.

His body was warm—like a furnace—and he felt strong, as if he spent his days loading lumber instead of dabbling away at a computer.

Lilah shivered, goose bumps forming along her bare arms. It felt so nice being close to Lucas. Too nice. Maybe she’d just stay there with him a few minutes longer. They weren’t exactly hurting anyone by being in each other’s company.

He leaned into her, speaking in a tone she could only describe as husky. "Those men you never met," he said, "that was their loss."

She blinked, keeping her eyes on the night sky. "Please. A man’s the last thing I need in my life."

"Are you sure about that?" Lucas asked, his warm breath coming against her ear. "Or is it possible you’ve been hiding behind your work for so long, you don’t even know how things could be?" His palm brushed her bare shoulder as he turned her to face him. "No one knows what it’s like to be hidden from the world more than I do, Lilah. You can trust me on this. I think we’re more alike than you realize. And it’s possible we’re both missing out on something incredible."

She didn’t push his hand away as it cupped her cheek. Or his arm as it encompassed her waist. No, she let him do what he wanted. She wanted him to touch her...

Wow! DANGEROUS ALLY really had a true demented villain in "Raphael" that would do anything in order to get "Project Gemstone" from his son. I really hope that he pays for everything that he did to almost every single character in this book. He just gave me the creeps from the very beginning.
I really enjoyed this book; it was so hard to put it down. It had all the twisted plots that a good suspense book should have with just the right amount of passion and romance. It shows the reader that not all relationships are a walk in the part, there are times that even if they are meant to be together, it is best just to let them leave and if they return, you know that it was meant to be. Just like Lucas and Lilah. Pick up this book today and see what struggles they went through to finally be together. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

The first novel in the series, Dangerous Ally, features new reporter Lilah Benson and sexy bad boy Lucas Ramone. You see, Lucas is a diamond smuggling kingpin who used to be engaged to her sister Lena, and also Lilah’s nemesis. So why is it she decides to take a job working for his father in the same home Lucas lives? The answer is easy really it gives her a chance to write the story that will make her career soar. The plan sounds easy enough until she actually meets him again and is tempted by the unwanted desire he invokes inside of her. Oh, he’s dangerous alright, because now that her heart is involved Lucas is more powerful than ever, but is he as ruthless and hard as she first suspects, or is he willing to make changes to save them both from the dangers that lurk in the background?

A tempting read, right? I thought so. The suspense begins immediately, and the chemistry between Lilah and Lucas is scorching. Add in manipulative relatives, sexy seductive staff members, a little stubbornness and a will to fight for what’s yours, and you’ve got yourself this intriguing read that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. I loved it!

I found the book to be thoroughly engrossing and engaging from the start and I couldn't bring myself to put it down to go to bed.  I had to keep reading until I reached the end just to find out how it concluded.  Did the characters find their Happily-Ever-After?  Well, I had to know, didn't I?
There were so many different twists and turns in the book, it definitely grabbed my attention.  There are parts where I wasn't too sure who to trust.  Of course, that worked to make me fall deeper into the story.
I really enjoyed the fact the author didn't stick with a golden boy.  The hero, Lucas, just happens to be a villain.  He knew he was one of the bad guys and would be the first to admit it.  I like that the author didn't fluff out and fill him with excuses to blame everyone else for his behavior as some writers have the tendency to do.  He kept on his big boy pants the entire book and didn't flounder for excuses. Of course, don't get me wrong, the man had a seriously dysfunctional family, major trust issues, a dark past, and a certain level of paranoia.  Can't say I blame the guy though, but he didn't use those factors as a scapegoat for his actions.
While those driving forces impacted much of his life, it's great to read about this guy's bumpy road to redemption.  Villain or not, you couldn't help but cheer on Lucas as he feels his way through uncharted territory with the heroine, Lilah.
Lilah was caught in between a rock and a hard place if I've ever seen one.  She fights her attraction for Lucas, knowing he is the villain that left such a dark shadow hanging over her family.  However, you can't choose who you love, right?

In this book we meet Lilah Benson, a  reporter who has taken a job in the household of a big diamond smuggling Kingpin (Lucas). She thinks she is able to get a story of a life time  but when she comes face to face with him she struggles over what she desires more her work or a passion for a man who is dangerous. Is Lucas really the man she thinks he is or is there more behind his bad boy image. Is he able and willing to make big changes in his life to save both of them from what dangers follow them.
Well what can I say, apart from it was a really interesting read that took me no time at all to read because I couldn't put it down. The story flowed so easy and had me gripped from an early stage in the book. I loved the relationship between the two leads, talk about hot, toe curling and belly fluttering amazing. If you haven't read this book then I really think its worth a try. I really think you will like it.

Honestly, I was captivated with this book based simply on the synopsis. Then I began reading and it took it to a completely different level for me. Normally, I believe that the synopsis covers basically what the book is about. In this case, Lauryn left all secrets within the book, which made for SUCH a great read!
